I’m doing some research and was wondering if anyone has information on the sold price of some “top-tier” barrel racing stallions and who those stallions were. I’m really interested in “confirmed” sold prices and not “heard through the grapevine” prices. I’m also interested in what those stallions stud fees were and how many bookings a year they were getting. I would prefer relatively current pricing, but it could go back to 2022 as well.
Have you tried just Googling “leading aqha sires barrel racing”? Pretty much the whole list comes up
for me. Then you’ll just have to search online for their individual stud fees.
As for sales toppers, Barrel Horse News online has sales results from at least 2023 and several stallions are included:
So it seems like there’s a lot of info available if you’ve got the time to do online searches.
I would tell you to look at the Pink Buckle sales results, as that should get you started.
They may not have prices of the stallions themselves (but remember, those top stallions don’t always change hands often) but you can see what their offspring are going for, as you will see a lot of top names.
You can also get your hands on a copy of the Barrel Horse News Stallion Registry, to read stats, money earners, etc, that are leading.
Because really, if I said stallion XYZ was sold for $XXX,XXX,XXX … how will you know my answer is the truth, because I posted anonymously on a public forum?

If a stallion sells privately, there is no requirement to disclose the sale price or terms of the sale. Auctions, IME, do publish the transactions but there can be situations when they do not if one is consigned but sells privately or one sells but there are post sale financial complications (not very common these days as they were).
Stud fees may be published but some stand at Private Treaty and some stallion owners price depending on the mare and/or mares owner.
You can usually find enough information to get a general idea but it is time consuming and may be incomplete.

Blackkout sold for $800k+.
There are quite a few stallions who publicly sold at auction for six figures.
Pink Buckle has a stallion sale that always brings big $$.
I’m sure there have been private sales for over $1mil.
