Prices of horses in Europe

Hi,

Anyone been to Europe recently and possibly know the price bracket of showjumpers more or less healthy at 140-145 level?

How long is a piece of string? Without a context the answer is probably “As much as you want to pay”. Do you want an established horse, suitable for an amateur, or are you looking to horse a professional and aiming for the national team? How old? A younger horse at the start of their career or a baby not yet established? Maybe an older horse, still sound but no longer able to do the amount of international travel that top jumpers do these days?

The price of Billy Stud horses, excellent UK breeders, begin at £10 K for quality, jumping-bred babies. For a publicly advertised horse, from an amateur owner, currently jumping at 1.40 expect to pay around mid five figures. The horses with serious potential are selling for six figures because it is possible to make a living in Show Jumping. These horses are sold through agents and aren’t habitually advertised to the general public.

Contact some European agents and set out your requirements and see what is on offer.

Thanks!

Totally agree with Willesdon. There’s a ton of variation here and honestly, if you are looking for a safe, serviceably sound doer at that level, you don’t have to spend that much, provided you’re OK with a rail or two and the risk of import.
