Princess Anne Hunt (Virginia Beach)

Does anyone have connections with Princess Anne? My Mom used to hunt with them way back in the day when they were in Virginia Beach. It’s a complete long shot, but I was hoping that maybe someone in the hunt might have old pictures that included my Mom. The time frame would be roughly from the mid 1950’s to mid 1960’s. I would love to surprise her with an old photo if I could come across one. I contacted the hunt via the email on their website, but did not get a response. Anyone here ride with them or have any ideas of who to contact?

Your email might have gone unanswered because the recipient is unclear of your intentions. How about giving the hunt secretary a call

They only have an email address on their website- no phone numbers are listed. If you know of anyone I should call, I’d be happy to try that route. I know that the odds are low that I could find someone with photos from that far back, but I thought it would be worth trying.

Mr. Keeley (?), then Elias “Toady” Guy were the Masters while my Mom hunted with Princess Anne, if those names ring any bells with anyone.

Toady Guy is still around but no longer Master I think- I did see him at the VAHound Show last year.

Have you checked the MFHA web site for phone numbers, and/or the Chronicle hunt roster? If I can lay my hands on mine I could give you the phone # but am dashing just now…

I don’t believe the hunt club is in VA Beach any longer, I believe they moved years ago. The person to PM who used to hunt with them when they were in VA Beach goes by “Old Fogy” on here. She is on these boards every now and then- maybe try and email her. If you don’t get a response from a PM, she is a board member of VBHSA (VBHSA.org) her last name is “Echols”, she may have other contact info. (Her mom used to hunt with them back during that timeframe) I hope that helps!

Daydream Believer has ridden with that hunt I believe. Not so much now if at all but she will surely know who to contact.

www.princeannehunt.com is their website. You can also contact cherylle Wornom at cwornom2@cox.net for more information.

Thanks for everyone’s advice! I will try contacting those mentioned to see if I can luck out.

I’m an old PAH person, who’s your mom?

I might have some pictures from the old days. . . I’m in New Mexico now, but hunted with PAH from 1972 to the early '80s and my folks still live out that way, across the river from Williamsburg.

The hounds were relocated from the wonderful old clubhouse facility in Virginia Beach to Toadie Guy’s place in Elberon, in Surry County I think, around 1977, and then kennels were built closer to the James River some years later. Toadie’s still in Williamsburg, still a horse owner, but not riding anymore.

Anyway, I might have pictures and can check with my folks for some as well.

possible photos for old PAH member

I was master of PAH during that period . A Member from 1962 until 1999 . If you can give me some details I may be able to help. Toadie Guy

Thank you for responding Mr. Guy. I sent you a PM with the information.

Mr. Guy, we are recent transplants to the area. I would love to talk to you about the area and hear the stories. I have recently seen an old picture of The Cavalier Hotel at Virginia Beach with a horse show out front and caught a small article about a famous area horsewoman with the last name of Midgett who used to ride a beautiful white horse in the local parades. Don’t mean to hijack this thread, just very happy that OP started it as I feel like a fish out of water (no pun intended) in this area, coming from the somewhat still open farm area of western Loudoun County and would love to meet some locals who used to be able to ramble over this countryside on horseback.

I hunted with your parents

 Hi Cammie! Your parents were my mentors and taught me everything I know about hunting! I think of them often and have some wonderful pictures that I’m sure I may find a few I will part with. Sorry this is so late! Please email me at lradomski57@gmail.com. Sincerely, Laura Radomski

Thanks for the response, but you’re definitely thinking of a different hunt member. My Mom was in her late teens/early 20’s when she rode with Princess Anne, prior to meeting my Dad. He’s never been involved in horses or with hunting.

I still would be interested in seeing any old photos you may have though, in case my Mom might be in one of them. The dates would have been roughly from 1958-1964.

Thanks
