What probiotic do you like? Dove’s on doxy for her anaplasmosis and I’d like to hit her with a probiotic. Not a huge fan of Probios. She eats pretty much anything. Thinking about Equiotic or this stuff from smart pak. Feedback? Ideas?
My horses are on Smart Combo products that include probiotics. For my senior with colic history, I also have him on Arenus Assure. It was specifically recommended by my vets.

I keep mine on Platinum Balance and for hay changes or other issues (like antibiotics right now) I add Probios but find it’s best at max dose once a day. A friend of mine is a huge fan of Equiotic but I haven’t tried it.
I am not ungrateful for your suggestion @keysfins, but Equiotic is not even sixty bucks and the smart pak stuff is less than twenty. The Assure is $140. $140! And I get that it’s more than a month, but I really don’t need multiple months, and am dubious anyway, after a vet I had in CO asked me once when I had a horse colicking “is she on Assure? Because I’m seeing a lot of colics on that.”
So you like your smartpak supplements?
Happy with the SmartPak stuff. And yes, the Assure is not inexpensive.
How ironic that your CO vet mentioned that about Assure! My senior with colic history has been on it for two years now, with
<<<touch wood>>>
good results. I’ve been too superstitious to make any changes. :uhoh:
(PM me with the dish from your CO vet!!)
I’ve been feeding my horse SmartDigest for almost 2 years now. It’s got seemingly some of the highest levels of pro/pre biotics and yeast for the best price. They have a stepped up version (the Ultra) for double the price too. I’ve not been able to find anything at a comparable price with similar amounts of ingredients. Worth a check for $15!
I am using Opti-zyme on my mini who gets digestive upsets and it works great. He is specifically on it for loose manure with the “after squirts” and it was much more effective for him than the Equiotic.
He cleared up on the Opti-zyme in about 10 days. No more “drizzle bottom”, knock on wood.
I know you said you don’t like Probios, but they have a soft treat that is really nice and easy to use. You can hand feed it or drop in their feed.
Otherwise, I do the Smart Digest Ultra because of the ColicCare coverage. Idk, I have tried a few myself and I haven’t really noticed much difference between various brands. I have done a bit of reading and the more strands of bacteria, the better (allegedly) and how it’s processed probably has a lot to do with how well it works and if the bacteria survive the digestive process.
Thanks, all! Lotsa options Going to give the Smart Digest a try but will keep track of this thread in case it doesn’t seem like “enough.” Ordered the big bucket because Pigs is now off his grain and running a high temp. Vet coming for him today.
Should we take bets on who is next?? :sigh:
Jingles Simkie, I hope something helps. SmartDigest has been pretty good to my guy, I sometimes debate taking him off to see if anything changes, but for $15 I’m too scared to try!
Hope all turns out well
Jingles for your pony! A friend of mine had her horse on the full bucket syringes when he wouldn’t eat anything else and within 3-4 days he was back to normal but she still gives him a good dosage every month. I have used the smartpak probiotics for about a year loved them and good for the price tag! Just recently switched to Probios since I had a coupon, moved my horse from Atlanta to Dallas and the hay quality is definitely not as great so I keep him on a daily probiotic and we ran into some soundness issues and he had to be on bute for a week or so and the probiotics kept him normal. Please keep us posted!
Last time I was at the vet school they reco’d Proviable EQ. Valley Vet Supply and others carry it. This is the paste, I believe they also make a powder.

I use the canine version for my dog with the sensitive tummy.
Jingles for a speedy recovery.
I feed the santa cruz equine probiotics. It has more actives in it than probios and is $11 for a 60 day supply.
