Problem with Anky pads..

Anyone else have a problem with Anky pads sliding off during riding? It was lying still during the walk and trot. But flyed of during canter. My horse is a big moving oldenburger with lots of movement in his shoulders.
I am thinking about sewing on some velcro to fasten it, but I am worried that maybe the whole point of a Anky pad will be destroyed if I do this?

What is the point of an Anky pad? How would let’s say stitching on Velcro tabs to the D rings interfere?

The only ones I’ve ever seen are on discount at Equestrian Factory Outlet in Canada.

I’ve never seen one fly off - that seems pretty hard with a properly fitting saddle? But my friend’s Anky pad gave her horse a terrible rub on her spine behind the saddle from a really hard seam on the underside. very poor design IMO

I had my saddle checked a while ago, but I have called them and asked for an appointment soon to have it rechecked. I can’t really think how it can happen either?
Hmmm, maybe these pads aren’t so good that I thought them to be.

Are there not straps that the billets run thru? I always cut the straps off that attach to the dee rings because I like the billet ones better.

My Equestrian Stockholm pad slides terribly while other brands (LeMieux, Dover) do not. I think it has to do with the cut and your horse’s shape. I did get some improvement using a very, very thin non-slip rubber pad between horse and pad and changing my girth to a shape that worked better for my horse. He was in a straight girth originally but it pulled because he has a very forward girth groove. This is the rubber pad I bought: https://www.doversaddlery.com/riders-international-no-slip-saddle-pad/p/X1-19059/

Your friend should make sure she lifts the saddle pad in the channel like we do for the withers. The saddle pad’s seam shouldn’t touch the horse’s spine.

But different pads for differents horses and needs.
I do have Anky pads and like them a lot during summer on really hot days but I prefer using wool sheepskin half pad directly on the horse’s back with a thin pad on top.

When the pad doesn’t stay put, slide off or rubs; saddle fit is the first thing to look at. It might be the saddle, but the pad could be altering the fit too.

Every cloth saddle pad with every saddle slips on my mare if you don’t do up the billet straps. She has a big shoulder. My high cut Ogilivy remains in place on the withers but slides back lower down if I don’t do them up.

I don’t like what Anky contributed to dressage  and would never buy an Anky product but they seem of decent style and quality. Like I said, I only see them carried at Equestrian Factory Outlet on deep discount.

Check your girth isn’t too loose or else check saddle fit. The pad shouldn’t fly off.
