One of the planes which was transporting Olympic horses from London to HongKong has stranded in Dubai. The plane with the horses of the Australian Jumping Team is standing at Dubai International Airport. Due to the quarantaine regulations the horses are not allowed to leave the plane. The temperature in Dubai is 45 degress Celsius which might lead to dangerous situations.

Last I heard the jumpers had been taken off the plane in Amsterdam…or was that a different load ?
Are they delayed in Dubai because of the bad weather in Hong Kong… Or ?
That’s what I was just trying to figure out. I think that there are actually 2 separate plane loads stranded: one in Amsterdam & one in Dubai.

[/QUOTE]Horses from 5 teams are stranded. The plane being held in Dubai only contains horses from the Australian and Saudi teams. The article I read said that those horses would stay at the stable of Sheik Mohammed for 24 hours until the weather cleared to continue to Hong Kong.

Five teams of show jumping horses traveling to the Olympic competitions in Hong Kong have been held up on their journey due to a tropical storm.
The 24 horses, from the American, Chinese, United Arab Emirates, Australian and Saudi Arabian teams, were due to arrive at Hong Kong today (Wednesday) from Amsterdam.
But due to the level 8 typhoon Kummuri, the Australian and Saudi horses have been held in Dubai for 24 hours to allow the weather to improve.
They are being held at the stables of Dubai’s ruler Sheikh Mohammed, who is the husband of International Equestrian Federation president Princess Haya. The other teams have not left Amsterdam.
In Hong Kong the British and other teams were confined to indoor facilities while the tropical storm raged.
But British team leader Will Connell told H&H that the storm had abated and all was normal again at 5.30pm local time. “It’s all perfectly fine now,” he said.
Flags, hoardings and barriers have been blown down around the Olympic venue at Sha Tin but there is no permanent damage.

I was going to say that the American horses unloaded from the plane and left in Amsterdam, since those were the only ones I could definitely say (thanks to Beezie’s blog), but it’s already been shared.

I suspect there are worse fates than being stranded in Princess Haya’s stables… :lol:
Hoardings are big advertising boards/billboards/sometimes used to surround construction sites.
They couldn’t ask for much more luxury than staying in Sheik Mo’s stables!
I bet the horses in Dubai are being treated like kings!!! eating golden carrots and sleeping on silk bedding…
Let’s put it this way – when my trainer worked for Sheikh Mo at the Dubai Equestrian Center in the 90’s, she took one of their school horses out on the Mideast GP jumping circuit.
