Products similar to Surpass?

Hi! First time poster here.

I’m interested in looking into products similar to the topical Surpass, which has been on backorder for some time. I have an FEI horse with mild ringbone, which is thankfully being well managed and he is expected to make a full recovery w/maintenance. Since the Surpass is no longer available, I was wondering if anybody has experience with anything similar? Thanks so much in advance!

I wonder if your vet can get something made that is similar? I use diclofenac on myself, but I understand the carrying agent in the human stuff is not suitable for horses. if you can figure out what the different carrying agent is, can you get it compounded?

I used the human formulation on a horse and it caused skin damage. I don’t know if that’s what makes it unsuitable for horses ?
Pentosan is effective, that might be an alternative until the equine version is available again.

I used Voltaren back when you could get it from Canada since it’s sold like Aspirin there. I felt it worked the same. Laws changed and now you can’t do that anymore.

Whaaaaaaaaa surpass is no longer available???

Mother in law has a prescription for Voltaren that she fills and uses on horses instead. It never caused any skin damage. I think it tests though, so be careful if you are competing.

I pick up Voltaren when I’m traveling - most recently in France and Mexico. I’ve never had an issue with it - although I do make sure I used it on clipped areas.

Surpass is no longer on backorder; we just received a shipment yesterday that had been backordered for some time.

I’ve used both Voltaren (from Canada and picked up in Europe on a trip there) and Surpass. Both caused some scurf on the skin of my very sensitive horse, but nothing damaging/dramatic. Never noticed a huge difference for what I was using it for.

My vet told me just two days ago that Surpass is available again.

That’s good news.

We had to have it compounded for the past few months…glad the real stuff is back!

I buy Volteran Gel from this site. No RX required. https://www.pharmcom.com/
