ProElite Topline Advantage

Has anyone switched from the Grass Balancer to this? With it being out for a while I haven’t heard much chatter about it (read a few threads on here) and I’m curious to hear people’s experiences with it.

I’m not familiar with either as they aren’t in my market.

However, when I’m looking at a new VMS I like to print out the guaranteed nutrition for existing and potential VMS and do a rough spread sheet to see how much of each vitamin mineral or neutraceutical is in a recommended serving, and how much the cost per serving is.

There are wild fluctuations between products in vm levels and in cost per serving. The most expensive are not usually the most comprehensive. Also you may have particular ingredients that concern you. I recently switched VMS because the copper/zinc levels were much higher and the cost per feeding much lower.

The other thing is palatability. I hide my VMS in a big beet pulp mash, and I always taper up my dosage so they get used to the flavor.

Topline Advantage is essentially a condensed ration balancer - more nutrient-dense (by about 60% give or take) than Grass Advantage, and with a correspondingly lower feeding rate (about 50%), which also means fewer calories.

it can work, or not, for a given horse, based on his needs and his forage. So it’s not inherently More or Less Than, then the Grass Advantage

Thank you all for the replies. I had already ordered 2 bags to try, so we’ll see how it goes. I have a medium keeper who could use more amino acids in his diet (and who eats a lower amount of feed) and a borderline easy keeper who needs the vit/min but not the calories of a fortified feed. Trying to cut down from so many individual supplements and simplify feeding. Will be continuing with the zinc/copper because I’m in a very high iron area but this will allow me to not have to special order anything else. Hopefully :crossed_fingers:

The Topline Advantage greatly exacerbated my horse’s fecal water issues. I spoke to ProElite about this and they said it’s not uncommon and that they suggested it be fed as a supplement to other grain and not by itself. I had been feeding it with a tiny amount of soaked alfalfa cubes. I wasn’t interested in adding grain so didn’t try their suggestion.

Thank you for your feedback. Currently neither horse I have has issues with their stools being loose, but it’s something I’ll definitely watch. One gelding is getting this with his Proelite Senior and the other with 2lbs of timothy pellets. They get multiple feedings daily and I’m splitting the topline advantage split in half twice a day, so hopefully that’ll help also.
