Professional riding attire

I’ve searched a lot and can’t find what I’m looking for. Mainly focusing on professional riding shirts. I really like the fitted, collared and polished look but for everyday wear not a show shirt. Any suggestions for brands that carry clothing outside of show shirts and the active wear type shirts ? Any luck with non equestrian brands for collared shirts, sweaters etc that look nice and are convenient for riding attire?

I came across a brand, Dada Sport, and fell in love with their style. I would like to purchase a couple things however it’ll definitely be an investment depending on if they even ship to the US.

Callidae has some really nice shirts. A lot of the sun shirt brands also make long sleeved shirts with polo collars.

I always have good luck with button downs and v-neck sweaters from Gap

Not sure if this is what you mean but Asmar has a lot of nice looking shirts, IMO. Plus they are very comfy.

Great option is golf attire. Golf shops have all kinds of polos in long, 3/4 or short sleeves; sleeveless, too if you wear that in summer. Usually in dry-wick fabrics and fun colors. Nice sweaters, too, in fitted styles.

Kastel makes a long-sleeve UV polo shirt. I’ve got two of them and really like them. They also make very nice zip neck sunshirts. I’ve not tried any of their heavier-weight shirts, but really like their summer stuff.

For cooler weather, I really like the Patagonia Capiliene quarter-zip shirts. Fitted, collar folds down, lots of colors, great for layering over or under. I practically live in those in the fall/winter.

Smartwool makes some sweaters now, too, that are great. I have one of their half-zips that its fabulous for layering. It was bitterly cold here the other day and I hacked around with that, an under armour turtleneck, and a softshell coat and was nice and toasty.

Considering the crazy amounts of money involved in h/j training and showing, it tickles me to go to my local Goodwill store and check out the active-wear section. As 222Orchids mentioned, golf shirts and jackets are often great for training or wearing at schooling shows, and my Goodwill, at least, has a lot of them on the racks for prices ranging from $6.99 to $12.99. The high-end ($12.99) shirts are new, donated by the original retailer, and are a great bargain. My daughter is tall and lanky, with monkey arms, and I find shirts and jackets for her all the time, so they must be making girls generally longer these days! (Lots of other shapes can be accommodated too.)

I second HJdaydream’s suggestion of Asmar. They have really beautiful clothing and a great sales section on their website where everything is at least 50% off.

North Face, Lands End
Goodwill
Agree on the golf shirts
The material is usually better quality than riding companies, which for some reason always looks cheap/thin to me?

I like cotton in our climate, so my spring/summer tops are all golf polo shirts from “Winners,” which is the TJ Maxx operation in Canada. A selection of colours that flatter both me and the horse  , mostly from Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger. They tend to sell for $19.99 Canadian, and have been holding up very well. Much better quality, selection, and price than anything in the tack stores. If you wanted a sleeker look or more moisture-wicking, you can find the same kind of thing in tech fibres at golf stores or outdoor stores.

In polo shirts i really the old navy polo shirts in long. Easily tucked in and cheap.

Mango Bay has some cute shirts… You can see them on their facebook page.

Duluth Trading Company’s shirts are two inches longer --really stay tucked in and have a sturdy, washable quality I find great for riding. They also layer well and still look nice (earth tones). Actually wore only Duluth Trading Company shirts/hoodies/tanks (with riding breeches/boots) on a 14 day camping trip across MI (um, didn’t exactly wash the shirts each day–ok never during that trip) and then on a 7 day pack trip into the Wind River Valley --same thing --wore them, didn’t wash them. The shirts/hoodies/tanks looked great --maybe didn’t smell so good. Certainly packed well.

We are basically riding attire soul mates. These are my brands, too. I tend to prefer zip necks to polo collars, because they can be made warmer in the winter and can protect your neck from sun in the summer. Maybe slightly less “professional” looking.

About to hit up my Goodwill store

Under Armour has UV resistant long sleeve 1/4 zips that look great and wear like iron.

I head to the Tommy Hilfigger outlet and stock up on their polo shirts when they offer them cheap. Nice and durable and shaped and tapered at the waist so they’re not boxy!

I too like Under Armour for their technical fabric both summer and winter. I find them on sale at sport goods store and see them as a great value

My entire wardrobe pretty much consists of Kastel & Ariat.

Another vote for the sun shirts! My favorites are Bette and Court. So comfortable and they wash beautifully.

I also like wearing my old Essex patterned/colored show shirts in warmer weather - they’re light, beautiful soft cotton, and are cut so much slimmer and longer than a normal button-down, which I can never keep tucked in. I roll up the sleeves and flip back the collar and they look casual but tidy. Bonus is they’re super cheap now on consignment or eBay;)

I actually like wearing show shirts for every day. I would scoop them up on consignment, particularly the nicer ones with Coolmax in them, and wear them for every day. I also second thrift shops, though I find it hard to get the fit I like outside the horse world (women’s button downs are either to square or too short to tuck in).
