Hi, I started leasing a property with a clay/sand mix outdoor arena and an arena rascal drag with a profile blade for grooming the arena. I have not used this type of drag much before. It seemed to be working well before the winter, but now after winter (where I couldn’t drag the ring much), the arena has gotten really compacted. I’m trying to use the profile blade about 2” down to loosen the compaction and it’s working on some areas of the arena but other areas isn’t cutting through anything and is just bouncing off the surface. Wondering what to do/if I’m using it wrong or if those areas that are so compacted are down to the arena base and that’s why the blade is bouncing off of them? They don’t appear to be different footing, however, just severely compacted/maybe holding more moisture than other areas of the ring. Any advice from people who have had a similar arena/drag setup or dealt with a similar issue would be helpful. Thx!

I had that drag and the same problem. You need the ripping teeth (replaces the profile blade) to get into those areas and break up the compaction. Then swap back to the profile blade and smooth it out! Also call ABI who makes the arena rascal. They are happy to help troubleshoot.
