Programs for Juniors

Dear All:

What hunts do you know of with a Juniors Program? I know a lot of hunts rely on Pony Club. The Pony Clubs in our area do a great job, but other hunts, I know, have special stuff for Juniors-I’d love to hear about them.

Regards,
Huntin’ Fool

We just held two intro to foxhunting clinics and junior riders are highly encouraged to attend. We also held our annual Children’s hunt yesterday. At the Children’s hunt juniors ride free and ride in the front of the field. If we have juniors who are experianced they can ride with staff to experiance the huntsman’s job, fieldmaster job, or whipping-in. We also have junior whips who ride along with our whippers-in. One is experianced enough to whip-in alone. In the past we have held an annual kennel day where we invited 4-H groups and pony clubs to come to the kennel and meet the hounds and learn a bit about their care and training. We also speak to 4-H and pony club groups whenever we can about our sport and how to get started.
You may just want to contact your local hunt because all hunts encourage juniors and many have special programs and educational opportunities like I just mentioned.
