Looking for reviews/experiences with Progressive Nutrition Feeds? Aside from Renew Gold (which I love) and purina (which I do NOT like), it is the only ionophore free feed available in my area. A friend of mine talked with the owner and they sound like great feeds. I am looking at either the Performance 8 Pellet or just adding the Grass Balancer to my Renew Gold/Oats/Alfalfa Pellets to replace the multivitamin/mineral supplement I was feeding (they would do better with the added protein the RB has). They are pretty close in price, but the Perf 8 pellets would be a bit more per month. They would be easier for the barn to feed though so that’s nice. Sometimes different people feed so the more idiot proof I can make it the better. My horses both get as much grass hay as they will eat and a couple lbs of alfalfa pellets or soaked cubes but are definitely more hard keepers that require plenty of protein and fat to maintain their weight and topline.
Can’t say enough good things about the ration balancers, both the regular and the concentrated. The fat supplement is great too. I have not used the Performance 8 Pellet, but would in a heartbeat if I needed it and could get it
About half of my barn is on the grass balancer and can’t say enough good things about it. Some of those horses get an additional fat supplement and/or a little beet pulp. This RB isn’t as high fat as some others, but it’s good on protein. This barn and another one nearby work closely with the local rep.
I like what I hear! I did go out and get a bag last night just to see if the picky gelding who doesn’t really care for RG would like it (the Perf 8 pellets that is).
I have been feeding Progressive Nutrition ration balancers and Envision Classic for 8 years. I’ve never been sorry or thought to use another product. All of my horses look amazing. Current competition horse in training just gets all the good quality hay she can eat and the ration balancer. She gets four ounces of Envision to make her coat shine. If she needs calories or energy I would just add more Envision. No need for added supplements. It’s all in there.
Orthopedic sports medicine vet/surgeon at prominent clinic in our area uses it and recommends it. I don’t personally use their feed, but just started their supplement advanced top line. Horsey likes it. Too soon to comment on results though. I’ve heard all good things on Progressive. My trainer likes it, but uses Dynamite or something similar.
I’ve been using Progressive Nutrition for the past 8 years or so and love it…all of mine get it…from babies on up to seniors…they all get a combo of Pro Advantage Grass Diet Balencer and Envision Classic wnd some Triple Crown Senior and they all look fantastic …it’s also very nice because you can easily adjust the RB or envision if more of one or the other is needed!
Now you may be talking me into the grass balancer!
I switched to progressive this spring and have been very happy so far. I use the grass balancer and envision for the TBs. noticed a real change in hoof quality and growth, and they have been on every hoof supplement including FF double strength.
My barn feeds it, and has for years now. We use the Pro Adult ration balancer, the Envision (fat supplement), and Pro Grass balancer for some youngsters on pasture. Horses do super on it, everyone is shiny and healthy weight. Having great hay is key, of course, but Progressive has been super.
I used it and the horses didn’t really like it. They would usually eat it, but not always.
I switched to a forage based diet and use Uckele sport horse pellets for vit/mineral and some extra amino acids. I use alfalfa hay or pellets when I want more protein. They look fantastic.
I’m wondering if you are all still happy with PN? I have been feeding it for many years and have liked it. However, this year all of the horses coats look dull. Even the heavy pregnant mare. My hay is very good quality, so it shouldn’t be that.
