Project Horse- help.

Trying to decide what to do. I’ve got this project horse I’m working with, she’s 13.2, but has really nice bloodlines, and moves good.

Here’s the deal, I was hoping to put her first show(reining) or two on her before I sold her, but I’m 5’7". Would that be to ridiculous to try? Or would I be laughed out the show-ring?

I’m not talking about the whole weight to rider ratio, I’m talking about my height compared to the horse’s.

Yeah but many reiners are in the 14 hand range and ridden by tall men. I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

Your equitation is not judged in reining, how the horse performs is.

What does your trainer tell you?
Is your horse really ready to show, are you?

Then give it a try and good luck.

Nope. You’re fine.

No, you will be fine.

(I showed a pony that size in dressage, and am 5’10". We did quite well. Western is much more accepting of tall riders on shorter horses)

Go for it! I showed a 13.3 hand pony and I am the same height as you. We did fine. Good Luck!

Thanks so much guys! We won’t be showing until next year, but I have to make a decision which horse to keep and which to sell, and whether I could show her or not was a deciding factor. After that I have to decide whether she’s to keep, or will be sold as a reiner after the first couple shows. But that’s all a long ways from now.

Hate having to choose. :frowning: I want them all!
