Does anybody have this half pad? It is not shimmable… it gradually gets thicker from front to rear. I’m wondering what the thickness measurement is in the very front and what the measurement is in the very back of this pad. Does it do a good job raising the cantle to level the saddle?
I have used that one before and it is very thin. This is what I have right now and it is very thick but does a nice job.
I suppose it would depend on how much of a lift you need.
I think I will stick with my Cashel Dressage Wedge Cushion. It’s worked great…and just $36. But I am curious about the Prolite…I wonder what makes it so good /expensive at $120. Thinline very pricey and doesn’t work for us…not impressed.
Both of my current horses go in pro-lite pads and seem to prefer them to other options. I have the shimmable ones, easier to deal with horses gaining or losing weight or muscle that way. I have one on a thin base and one on a thick base, and then can shim back or front from there. The thin base/shims are about the thickness of a thin line pad. The thicker shims/base are maybe double that? Maybe a little more.
Like thin line, they don’t compress such that they create pressure points, like some of the other, softer pads. They’re definitely worth the price, in my opinion. The anti-concussive padding is keeping my horses’ backs happy and healthy.
I have one of those too (thin version), and like them MUCH more then the Thinline pad - which I felt was kind of “deadening”. I got mine directly from the UK - with shipping, it was under $100, with the set of shims! I agree, I think it is a good option - you can move shims around, or even make your own shims!
I have the just a plain Prolite half pad with no shims (no pockets) and I quite like it. I bought it lightly used in the UK. I have a Lemieux Pro Sorb pad if I need to shim anything. It came with two different sets of shims, one thicker than the other. If I were to buy a pad with shims again, I’d opt for the Prolite. I prefer the shape (Lemieux is more forward cut for a jump saddle).
