I wore that color with a black polo shirt. It looked very nice.
Thank you. I wear a safety jacket with a vest in the hunters. I think it looks a lot smarter than the possibility of being sent to the Shepherd Center for months due to a spinal injury because I thought safety looked āstupid.ā
And youāre correct. Even when hunters went from hunt caps to ASTM helmets there was a lot of bellyaching about how āstupidā it looked. Iāll never forget when I went to go hack my horse with a 9 year old girl and she asked where my helmet was as I wasnāt wearing one. She told me āthatās not very smart.ā Even a 9 year old knew better! From that day forward Iāve never once swung a leg over a horse without a helmet. Sometimes I think people get so hung up on looks and traditional that they overlook the obvious benefits of WHY things are changing.
I tell people that helmets enhance a personās look. (when the head is bigger, the body looks smaller)
I saw a lot of riders at Upperville, and not just in the jumpers, wearing safety vests, and I was glad to see it.
Most blend in to the riderās jacket really well and are low profile enough that you donāt really notice.
I love looking at photos from the 60s and 70s, when you still saw top hats, derbies and the classic hunt caps, but realistically, if Iām watching a horse go in the show ring, Iām paying attention to the horse and its way of going. As long as the rider isnāt doing or wearing something distracting (big duck over the fences, obvious bling on the tack) I just donāt notice.
I do hate the freakinā brand medallions on helments AND whatever brand of breeches has the black triangle on the thigh. THATāS distracting, not a dark, solid color safety vest over a dark jacket.
I think the traditional things are stupidāi.e. the damn jackets. I love the safety helmets and vests. Please donāt think that I am voting for less safetyāI am voting for more safety and less fashion. The vest should replace the jacket not be on top of it. Thatās whatās stupid. Itās like putting a helmet on top of a top hat.
Seems like they could make āvestsā count as ājacketsā. That way people could wear vests when jackets are required and they could either be clothing or safety vests.
Personally I think a long sleeve sunshirt in a pale color with a tailored vest (especially if cut a bit longer to cover just below belt) is a nice compromise of sporty and traditional. And it makes those who choose a safety vest blend in more.
The approved rule changes are posted.
In DR 120
1.4 Breeches and Jodhpurs. White, light, or dark colored breeches or jodhpurs are permitted in competition. Bright colors
or patterns are not permitted. Contrast piping is allowed
Hmm, ābrightā may preclude rust. But at least now I can wear more of a medium/charcoal grey! Much easier to keep clean.
I wonder how some of the things like contrasting seats will fall under the pattern vs contrast piping part of the rule.
Canāt imagine thatās the most complimentary color for some shades of horse. But, it will be interesting to see.
they never cared about contrasting seats before⦠and frankly how much of the seat is visible under both a$$ and jacket?
Where are the new rules posted? The rulebook has not changed⦠and it is not listed inthe rule changes approved 6/28ā¦

I think itās awesome.
that is super! thanks!
Iām excited about the change!
Does anyone know what colors are definitively in/out? āDarkā and āBrightā are a little hard to interpret!
For example, Iām assuming a bright purple is out, but what about a merlot or burgundy? Those are fairly dark. Or, at what point does a light blue cross into bright territory?
You can use a hex color picker and find out the RGB value of any color.
