Thank you for taking this poor baby on, but a sound mind is worth so much.
Yes, more pics needed for sure

I think he will end up being a dream for you once you address all his impending needs. A good mind is something you can’t make. Please keep us updated and we need pictures!!

He is already attracting a crowd…lol ( Dante, Six and Saxon AKA the 3 Muddy-teers)
We had Tropical Storm Zeta through here Thursday and now my dry lot is a mud pit, leaves and branches everywhere. I have picking up stuff all day. The other three are in the pasture so Mr. Ed, literally, that is his name, has been trotting around trying to get them to come back. Settling in well, had a nice beet pulp lunch with some brown sugar and SMZ’s topped with a Cosequin garnish. He is now busy exploring the barn yard paddock and being stalked by Spud the cat. He is definitely a cookie lover and is investigating us. A few more hours until stall time and I can get him into him night clothes, poor guy has no winter coat at all, unlike his new roomies (furbies) Thankfully I kept all of my old OTTB’s clothes (RIP Norman 2001-2019, you were a character,) he was a 78/80 so they should fit. Ed will get his own wardrobe, I just didn’t want to order it until he was here and safe and sound. Norm’s stuff is well used but it is still in good repair and warm, so he can use it until his comes in. What does everyone think … Teal or Hunter?
Good luck with your new friend. Overall it sounds like he needs to decompress and get back on a schedule of consistent work and low key, healthy and safe surroundings.
He probably wont know what hit him.
Oh,I am always hunter green. That is a dignified color, sophisticated, classic. Does great with so many other colors for piping and go alongs
Teal all the way!
What a cutie. I second hunter green.
Such a cute story! He is very cute.
Congratulations! He’s very handsome and more importantly, from what you’ve said, his temperament seems wonderful. If he could survive in the atmosphere that he came from … you definitely have a “diamond in the rough”.
Here’s to many happy and fun years together!
And I vote for hunter green. ðŸ‘
What a lucky fellow! I cringed when I read he was tied to a tree, eating out of a manure bucket. You saved him from a cray cray situation!
But now I want a pet crow!
You are welcome to a crow…it was very disconcerting! Bugger stalked me and the landed on my head, it was like getting hit on top of the head with feathered volleyball.
The mucket bucket was clean at least…
”‹ He is still settling in here. Right now he is exploring the grass pasture. Not grazing, just exploring. He has a wonderful deep singing voice and greets you with a rumble whenever he sees you and comes right up. So far he has been a wonderful boy! Minds his manners and a gentleman in all ways. Seems like he always thinks he’s done something wrong and tries so hard to please. The slightest amount of disapproval and he freezes and looks worried. I am sure this will fade as we get to know each other. I am very happy with him and we will work on each other confidence!
Re his hoof ‘problems’–have a good farrier work on him and they may be fine. In my part of the world, the farriers that the western and gaming people think are wonderful, are…not so much.
He’s very handsome. As long as there’s nothing serious, the body will heal. A great mind is a huge plus, and I bet he’ll settle down in a calmer environment.
Hunter or Navy
So, we comprised! His turnouts are teal and black and his barn clothes/ wraps are hunter/navy which are my barn colors anyway. All of my my have a different color turnout. Gray wears the navy, mahogany bay in burgundy, palomino in royal blue, palomino mare in black and chesnut and white mare in Hunter. Now he has teal. This allows horse hubby to put the right turnout on the right horse if needed or for me to grab the right one in the dark winter’s night.
Ratwrangler- No worries there, my farrier will be here Wed afternoon, we have used him for over 10 years. He will get him back on a good foot. Looks like a stone bruise…
What a pretty boy. So glad he is settling in so well.
This made me literally LOL!! What a hilarious description!
This is a great thread, awesome story, and I am really glad you took a chance on him. I have one (a paint mare) that the ill-suited owner just gave me, and she has that same pleaser, worried-that-I-did-something-wrong kind of attitude. She’s been saddled and “round-penned” by some friends of the previous owner, but not ridden. She’s still young (guesses have her at 4 - 6 years old), so it will be interesting to see how she does when it’s time to just start over with her training and get her going under saddle.
I look forward to reading your updates - and I’m glad I’m not the only one that thinks it can a take a couple of months (or longer) to let one settle in and really find their peace with their new situation.
If it’s clean, it’s not a muck bucket…it’s just a bucket.
But the crow sounds hilarious, they are supposed to be super smart.
I had one horse I knew from the moment I sat on him that he was “the one.” I rode him for less than 5 minutes down the driveway in the pitch dark and back and said I’d take him. Owned him for 20 years and the best horse I’ve ever ridden. He took care of me carrying my butt all over the mountains and was my best friend to the end. He’s been gone for 5 years now and I miss him every day. Never felt that intense bond with another horse since then although my TB Spud is pretty close.
Old habits die hard…lol. I will say “clean” was maybe a bit of an exaggeration.
At first the crow was cool in a Halloween, sort of way. Then the big bugger starting stalking us…it got less cool. He loved sneak up behind you and bark (like a dog) or neigh, cool but disconcerting. He also could imitate pig and turkey noises. Once he landed on my head, they started telling me how he landed on of the kids’ heads and she needed stitches. The vet and O started getting a little jumpy.
Can anyone guess the crow’s name?
@four2farm@gmail.com it sounds like you found a great diamond in the rough. You two are going to have lots of fun getting to know each other, and he is going to get nice and pampered!
