Does anyone know the difference in these two? I just used the prostride and have had really good results but I am also wondering about other alternatives
Medivet is Autologous Conditioned Serum is ACS. Pro-Stride is APS an Autologous Protein Solution.
The actions are a bit different.
Medivet: The blood is centrifuged for separation than light waves introduced to assist in the degranulation of cells and activation of anti-inflammatory cytokines. Basically all the cytokines (anti-inflammatory factors) are in a “soup”. There are not intact cells in the product. All cells degranulated over time, 12-24hrs. 1-2 injections per wk for 3-4 weeks.
Pro-Stride is APS, Autologous Protein Solution. They cytokines are concentrated using an absorbant and 2 centrifugation spins. The anti-inflammatory cytokines and anabolic growth factor proteins, and intact cells are the end result of device centrifugation. The introduction of whole proteins and cells enable a bit more longevity and pronounced efficacy. 1 injection, 10-12months.
Both can be used in virtually any joint. Interesting chatter-- When biologics first came to the equine world there was a lot of talk of not using them in low motion joints, this was due to the significant volume of injectable product and the very tiny spaces we see in hock joints. I/E many thought it was wasteful to use biologics (IRAP/PRP/BMA) since they would have left over product and they were costly. Many vets use biologics in hocks, coffins, stifles, necks, ect. with great success.
It’s always good to have options.
We have used the prostride and are 4 months after injection and seems to be working very well. My Horse is a 22 year old eventer that is now only doing dressage. Always looking at options. Thanks
Anyone have any success with either? Do you like one vs the other? A woman at my barn is on her last shot for her Prix St George horse who is 18 and he seems to be going really well… Another just got ACS pulled on her 15 year old A/O hunter.
Interested in seeing if one is recommended over the other!
We used the Prostride and we are 8 months out and going well

That is awesome to hear! Lovely horse and rider pair and I love the matching!
