Protecting Saddles when non-horse friends come to ride?

Looking for ideas

I’ve got a couple friends who want to ride, but they don’t have breeches. I want to let them ride, but also protect my saddles I’ve spent so much money on.

Any ideas on how to protect my saddles when they wear jeans? Or other options for men other than jeans? I’ve put them in western saddles, but I would like to use the saddles that fit my horses correctly if this is a more regular adventure.

Thanks!

Seat savers will protect the seat from the seams on jeans.

If they aren’t horse friends, won’t they just be walking for a few min? I doubt that that would cause any damage.

What about asking them to wear sweatpants or some kind of athletic wear?

Khakis? Mr LS wears his mechanic uniform pants when he rides.

I had no idea jeans could damage saddles? And I’ve been riding in jeans (trail rider)…oof. some type of cotton pant? Like longe/ pajama type pants? Would chaps help at all? (Bonus you could tell them it’ll help protect their legs from thorns if you’re trail riding and have a lot of thorn bushes in the woods like my area does.)

It depends on the saddle. Most Western saddles are fine. Most English saddles that aren’t made of calf or buffalo skin are fine too. I have a couple of Stubben saddles that are 30-40 years old and will probably outlast me and I ride in jeans all the time at home. My newer Stubben is about 15 years old now and definitely shows more wear-- it’s made of slightly softer/thinner leather and didn’t require much break in at all-- but it will still outlast the fancier French saddles.

Most brands (english brands) actually will void warranty if your saddle is ridden in with jeans. They can tell by how the sewing is rubbed as it makes quite a difference.

OP, I would suggest a yoga pant or sweat pant. I am very careful about my saddles for warranty reasons, and I request they wear a stretchy pant of some sort and no jean.

you could buy a cheap synthetic saddle. They have many sizes from which to choose and are under 200
