The Fairgrounds racecourse in New Orleans La. is under quarantine for EHV.

This is an older story from Dec. 2016.

Ten horses are now confirmed sick over 100 being tested. The Fairgrounds are under quarantine, racing will continue.

ETA… Some horses who have left the facility may be at risk for contracting and spreading the virus.

Keeneland didn’t let any horses that had been at fairgrounds after Dec 11 go through the ring. Boss had one filly that left there Dec 9, talk about just making it out in time.

I was always under the impression that many horses were carriers of the wild strain but we’re not a threat, however they are under quarantine as well as the horses testing positive for the neurologic strain. Lots of frustrated horsemen down there. I feel for them.

There have also been 2 cases of EHV-1 in Kentucky, one at HighPointe Training Center in LaGrange.

Updating to add the local N.O. news is reporting 1 horse has been euthed.

There are now 39 horses that are EHV-1 positive at Fairgrounds. The number more than tripled in 24 hours.

Having lived through the Pimlico outbreak I know how scary this is, I hope they get it contained and the effected horses recover completely.

Jingles & AO for all involved - EHV-1 is frightening and heartbreaking.
