PSA: Farm Tours in Lexington, KY

For anyone who will be near the Kentucky Horse Park, there are tons of very entertaining farm tours in the vicinity. They have a wide variety of options, including some of the very top thoroughbred breeding operations, plus OTTB adoption centers, sport horse farms, vet clinics, Keeneland race course, etc., etc.

Prices start at $15-$20, and most of the tours last from 1 to 2 hours. I believe there are several different companies that organize tours, and I’ve had very good luck with this one.

Sounds like a fun time.

Oops, sorry. Imagine a handsome bay horse and a handsome chestnut horse with a beautiful stone barn in the background.

Are pictures not working in anyone’s posts? Or did I do something wrong?

They are not working for anyone. There is a thread about it in the technical help forum. Hopefully the developers fix it soon. We are missing out on a lot good photos.

Ah, thanks. At least I didn’t break the whole thing. Lol.

Right click and open in new tab or new window, then click advanced and then proceed

Ohhhh so handsome!

So nice to see royalty!

What a great way to spend some time; I’m envious.

Doesn’t work when on my phone

Those sound like so much fun! Does the 25 lbs of carrots I’ll bring count as extra luggage? lol

I’ve done the Three Chimney Farm tour and it was an amazing tour. A day I won’t forget for sure and a real inside look at the industry.

Bumping this up. I’ll be in Lexington September 15-18 and it seems like a lot of the farms don’t have tours during this time. No Coolmore or Three Chimneys it looks like :frowning:
Where else should we go?

Claiborne is a good place to visit. Lots of history there, and they let you get up close and personal with the stallions for pictures. It’s a little bit out of Lexington, but not too far.

Godolphin is an amazing place. I can’t even imagine their budget for landscaping, much less the rest of the operation. Lol.

Spy Coast is right next to the horse park, and their focus is sport horses rather than race horses. They also have a bunch of interesting equipment on the tour for rehab/lay-up horses.

Hagyard is also right by the horse park, and offers a very cool tour of their vet facility.

I’m guessing maybe some of the breeding farms are tied up in the fall getting ready for the upcoming yearling sales.

Pretty much everything you will want to know is available here: VISIT HORSE COUNTRY | EXPERIENCE THE BEST OF HORSE COUNTRY

Also, the Keeneland September Sale will be going on during the dates that you’re here (which may be why some farms don’t have tours.) It’s well worth seeing!

Info here: Sales (keeneland.com)

Spendthrift has availability on September 16. Hands down my favorite of all the farms I’ve toured so far.

Lanes End has availability on September 15, also fabulous.

Jonabell (Godolphin) has availability September 15/16/17.

Can confirm that the Lane’s End stallion complex tour is fab. One of the Farish girls herself led my group when I was there.
