PSA: Las Vegas Horse Shooting on July 4th

Just spreading the word:

First I’ve heard of this, but its been going on since January. Four equines have been killed and various acts of vandalism have occurred at Cowboy Trail Rides in Red Rock Canyon. It’s believed that the criminal is doing these things because he thinks that horses shouldn’t be on the land.

Two of the most recent articles that came up that include stills of criminal trespassing:

The articles mention the criminal putting Ajax on the trails…does anyone know what the exact purpose for? I’m confused about that one. Maybe to keep wildlife away and make it less attractive to tourists; leading to loss of business?

What a horrific thing to do.

Can the Ranch put up motion sensor lights near the corral where this has happened?
The camera captured the guy, but bright lights coming on might dissuade him from doing anything else.
And could alert Ranch employees to call police.

The horses will set off motion sensor lights constantly.

Aimed away from the corrals, set high & facing approach.
I had a motion sensor light set at 16’ at the entrance to my barn - the service door.
Light fixture was actually on the outside wall of my indoor arena, attached to the barn.
Horses never set it off & they were loose in the area 24/7.
When I went for nightcheck, it would turn on when I was about 25’ from the door.

as mentioned the horses would trip the motion sensors however an easy way to control lighting if there is primary pathway to the barn would use photo eyes across the path. There are some photo eyes that are used in perimeter warnings on prisons or on military installations

I find this story disturbing in so many ways. Not only do I feel sorry for the poor horses, but what kind of nut is wandering around out there at night with a gun, feeling empowered to execute docile animals? And all because he doesn’t like horses and tourists having the use of that area?

Lordy, I hope they catch him.
