PSA: Steward/Stewart

Steward: Term for a licensed official in charge of enforcing rules and regulations, such as at a horse show.

Stewart: Surname of several notable (for whatever reason) horse people, i.e., Scott, Don, Kim, etc. Also the proper name for a certain pattern of plaid.

That is all.

Note to horse people: If you want to be a BNT change your last name to Stewart.

LOL!!! i needed this today

LOL

Here is a limerick,
the Spellbound pony came from Don Stewart,
went to Kim Stewart,
who sold them the blind horse from Scott Stewart.

Stewart: . Also the proper name for a certain pattern of plaid. ;)[/QUOTE]

ā€œStewartā€ is the name of a Scottish clan. The clan originally got its name because they were stewards to the Scottish kings. But they later became kings themselves, sometimes spelling their name Stuart.

Like most Scottish clans, they have one or more patterns (called tartans) of woven cloth named after them. Royal Stewart, hunting Stewart, Stuart, etc.

A plaid is NOT a pattern. A plaid is a large piece of (usually tartan) cloth worn as a cloak.

The word ā€œplaidā€ is misused more often than it is used correctly, but since this is a PSA about word usage, I have to bring it up.

The word for the pattern is a ā€œtartanā€.

I stand corrected by the best stewarD of them all!!

I love you all:)

Visual aids to this discussion are available on the new show Outlander. All sorts of stewards and Stewarts are featured. Highly recommended for men on horseback, in plaid, tartan, mud, and artfully applied blood. Last week the male lead was lunging a horse in a kilt:) This guy gets hurt a lot which means he has to take his shirt off to be tended by the time traveling heroine:)

Who knew the backs of those kilts were so much longer than the fronts and draped all over the horse’s butt?

Is that where dress sheets originated from? Please watch and chime in. I’m thinking DD needs a black watch dress sheet. Perhaps will aid in time traveling, preferably to a time when my job does not exist.

I would totally watch that show!

Actually, I’m already watching the show. The male lead looks pretty darn good in his kilt. Since it’s on cable, I predict he will also look good out of his kilt.

Talk about looking pretty good:

Lol, you are all such saucy lassies!

Headed to a show tomorrow and it is expected to be 104 degrees. I can only dream of men in kilts!

Seriously, the horses in Outlander do sort of wear kilts! Because the guys’ kilts are so long in the back! The guys drape the back of their kilts over the horses’ butts… Which means the guys’ butts are … well. You get the picture.

Hours of discussion ahead of us on this one ladies.
Have a great weekend!
