Psssst, are y'all watchin our cuzins at Rolex??

If you think eventers are crazy when eventing, you should hunt with 'em. Irish team at Loudoun West some years back comes to mind…and of course, as I think has been noted, a number of the ‘top’ eventers these days hunt regularly.

I’ve been around long enough to have been at The Very First Ledyard…and looking forward to WEG eventing (well, at least the xc and jumping, two out of three ain’t bad) this fall!

Hey Beverley,

Thanks for the seal of approval!:lol:

We Love hunting with gusto. We really do have “forward” in our brains. My horses memorized all the hunt calls and avidly followed the hound action.

When they were in their pasture at home, they would chase any fox who made the mistake of cutting accross their pasture. I had to put them in stalls if our hunt was hunting our area. They would run the fence, measuring it to jump.

I think the eventers who hunt with us are SO SWEET to not laugh at me!! They ride like the wind and do it well!!

Ledyard, that is one amazing event and I hope you will take and share photos from WEG this fall!!

I was there, too. I remember looking up… up… UP at those fences. I’m with you - forget it! (Absolutely amazing and wonderful to watch though!)

I was there outriding

How many people can say that rode a horse at Rolex 6 years straight!

It’s great fun and I enjoy watching.

Those are some NICE looking horses!!! I’m insanely jealous…the outriding sounds like FUN!

6 years in a row at Rolex! I’m impressed! Phillip and Boyd should be wowed, too! Must be fun to outride. Did you run down spectators or just errant horses?

You outriders rock! 6 years is cool. How do you get to be an outrider?

And, I nearly peed my pants just imagining going over that course.

I have the utmost respect for eventers. A couple of really bad “rubs” or, more appropriately called “I almost flipped my horse and died” incidents, and they just carried on. Holy crap. I would need liquid valium in my flask if that happened to me out in the hunt field, plus a change of breeches.

Does anyone recall that youtube video of the 3 British gents doing a dressage test, sans horses???

I’d love to see the same thing for 3 day eventing.:lol::lol:
I can imagine the commentary-I’d even do it WITH a steed:

Now Carol C. and Belle the wonder pony are just coming to Head of the Puddle. Ohhhh Belle popped in a little buck there but Carol managed to recover just as they hit the (3/4 inch) of water. Now up the non-existent hill to the 2" downed sapling. Oh, Belle cleared that like it was at least 9"!!! No time faults here-they are leading the pack at 67 minutes. Belle doesn’t even look tired. Well, she has been doing her running walk most of the way, but I’m sure that saves energy for the stadium ambling tomorrow.

Ditto!!! Evidently there is no crying in 3 Day Eventing.

Love it! It would be even funnier with the voice of Wofford or Emmerson as the narrator.

Veeeery nice!! Where were you stationed on the course??

hahahahahahaa
I have spotted some of those sofa/nap jumps!
Go to youtube-- ashley kehoe and Mazetto (think I spelt everything right).
Mazetto is part Cleveland Bay, y’know.

Wow, just wow on that pair. Very impressive cross country runs!!

NICE!!! Y’all are great ambassadors for your club!

I’m insanely jealous.

i don’t think my breeches would look good, with having to wear a diaper underneath it, for all the times I would wet my pants going over those jumps!

let me add!!

OK, let me clarify. What I find sad are all the (usually teenaged) “eventers” that are obscessed with having all the color coordinated equipment on their horse to school or go on a trailride on the outside of the ring!. Galloping boots to school 2’ cross country jumps in the field. They gossip, wear their fancy outfits everytime they come to the barn, are catty about horse breeds, the horse gets a full liniment wash after each 30 minute ring work, hate anyone who isn’t an eventer. They want & try to do everything the upper level people do hence I call them wannabe’s. God forbid you be ever be a pleasure riding/foxhunting adult (who me?!!!) at one of these event barns around here in northern Virginia.!!! There’s a LOT of these types here. This I know!!

I’ve groomed for friends at local events and know how hard eventing is especially the preparation & training. I admire this immensely. But there’s a lot of timid riders who think a cross country course at pre-green-beginner-novice is the pinnacle of difficulty. And I absolutely agree that hunting is fabulous for an eventer. Look how many upper level riders have hunting in their repertoire/history. I like to go to events to watch cross country especially at training & above.
There’s a lot to admire there!

I think I just haven’t met the FUN ones! Oh well!!! No biggie!!

wateryglen- We think we are REALLY funny while sitting around our stall drinking beer at the end of the day! The more beer we have, the funnier we are!!

There is alot of crying in Eventing actually. Just go to any finish for XC at any event and you will see tears of joy by the bucket load. I have friends who cry every run without fail and they hate that they do it, but the emotion of the moment just takes over.

Anyway, if you want to see what it’s like to ride a big course, here is a *** helmet cam with Peter Atkins and his wonderful horse Henny. They also went around Rolex this year.
