OK, let me clarify. What I find sad are all the (usually teenaged) “eventers” that are obscessed with having all the color coordinated equipment on their horse to school or go on a trailride on the outside of the ring!. Galloping boots to school 2’ cross country jumps in the field. They gossip, wear their fancy outfits everytime they come to the barn, are catty about horse breeds, the horse gets a full liniment wash after each 30 minute ring work, hate anyone who isn’t an eventer. They want & try to do everything the upper level people do hence I call them wannabe’s. God forbid you be ever be a pleasure riding/foxhunting adult (who me?!!! ) at one of these event barns around here in northern Virginia.!!! There’s a LOT of these types here. This I know!!
I’ve groomed for friends at local events and know how hard eventing is especially the preparation & training. I admire this immensely. But there’s a lot of timid riders who think a cross country course at pre-green-beginner-novice is the pinnacle of difficulty. And I absolutely agree that hunting is fabulous for an eventer. Look how many upper level riders have hunting in their repertoire/history. I like to go to events to watch cross country especially at training & above.
There’s a lot to admire there!
I think I just haven’t met the FUN ones! Oh well!!! No biggie!!
eh…those are not eventers…those are just bratty teenagers. They can be annoying no matter what they do! You do just need to meet some real eventers…or at least some non-bratty teenagers!
