Does anyone know if there’s a good high-level Equestrian public speaker? I’ve looked in some websites and on TEDTalks and there really isn’t anyone in the Hunter Jumper world. I’m looking for a speaker for a medical society. Let me know, thanks.
On what subject?
I used to know an orthopedic surgeon who evented. He is probably retired by now but I would think that a similar medical professional who rides who be a good bet - esp. an orthro or trauma doc.
Do the governing bodies have the equivalent of a chief medical officer - someone who makes sure there are qualified medical personnel on site at big competitions? Or is that task always left up to show organizers?
Dr. Jenny Susser did a great episode on the Equestrian masterclass and was a USEF Team Sports Psychologist for the dressage team. She does large public speaking events. https://drjenny.com/
Melissa Marshall works in communications relating to science. Present Your Science - Technical Presentations Specialists. She also competes actively on the A/AA circuit in the AO hunters. And she is a super nice and lovely person, too!
I don’t know if Dr. Reed Ayers (who posts here) does public speaking engagements typically, but he’s an eventer who sits at a pretty interesting intersection of medical and materials science and orthopedics and might be the kind of person you’re looking for.
Excellence, horse rider communication, lots of applicable themes.
Thank you, @poltroon and @grzywinskia.
I think it comes down to what you would like the speaker to discuss? The topic you seek defines the speaker, at least in general terms.
I have done plenty of professional society (AAOS, AMPP, etc) talks and I am not adverse to other venues. I know several DVMs/MDs (cardiology, ER medicine, equine orthopedics) who event who also may be appropriate speakers. Obviously things can be tailored to fit the h/j theme, if there is one.
