Publix Pine Cat Litter

Do any of you know anything about this? The price is definitely right, as is the weight, but is it any good?

I tried Feline Pine once, years ago, on the recommendation of then-BM, but I did not like the way it broke down into a dusty wet mess. The Publix brand says it does the same thing.

I wish I could remember the brand of cat litter I twice bought at Walmart about a year ago, I think it was made from ground-up corncobs.

I am just looking for something as inexpensive as regular non-clumping litter, that will keep down the smell better than regular non-clumping litter. I prefer clumping litter, but it is getting beyond my budget.

I use TSC’s pelleted horse bedding. $6 or $7 bucks for a 40lb bag - works great! Some TSC also sell corncob stuff, but it’s not the super fine stuff.

Oh, and I find the pellet stuff works best in a deep layer in a deep box (I use a Sterilite or Rubbermaid tote box). The urine trickles down and is absorbed by a lower layer. My guys seem to use one or two corners more than others so I treat it like a very tiny stall - I pick the solids out daily, and then when there’s enough wet stuff I scoop that out too. I don’t do the stir method, I think that makes it smell faster.

We just started using Blue Buffalo’s walnut shell litter, and I think it is keeping the smell down better than anything we’ve ever used. Before that we were using World’s Best, then Tidy Cat or Arm & Hammer clumping clay. I’m not sure how the price compares, though.

RPM, it was probably World’s Best cat litter http://www.worldsbestcatlitter.com/ IMO freakin’ awesome stuff!

I just picked up my second bag of Swheat Scoop. Its alright. I wanted something that does not track, get too dusty, and have a yucky odor.
This stuff tracks a little, but there is NO DUST and a much more pleasant odor, so I will keep getting it.

Thanks, everybody. Paulaedwina, I know it wasn’t World’s Best, because that is WAY out of my price range! I have friends who use it, though, and I wish I could afford it.

This litter I bought came in a zip-lock plastic bag that I really liked and was very lightweight. I have tried searching for it Walmart online but haven’t found it. But thanks, though.

Wal-Mart has the Arm N Hammer Corn Cob version you’re thinking of. I just switched over to it and am pleased. The baking soda reduces odor and it’s SOOOOOOOO light weight!

It may have been Fresh Results, because I remember back when I first tried it I kept thinking of it as Fresh Step, even though I knew that wasn’t the correct name.

I don’t think Walmart carries it anymore. :frowning:

I personally will only buy Feline Pine. Haven’t tried the Publix version, but I can tell you that I hated the Wal Mart version. I can’t remember what it was called, but the pellets were made out of bamboo. Looked great. Was terrible, couldn’t use up the bag quick enough.

You can get a 40lb bag of the EXACT same thing from TSC or any farm supply store for $6.
