Puppy pics for no reason:
Too adorable! I’m much happier for seeing these pictures.
I’ll take puppy pics all day long!
Oh my heavens… what a cute fluff. Her feet look HUGE in the pictures.
Puppy question again:
She is not particularly treat motivated. I’ve tried her kibble, a couple different brands of soft treats, a couple different brands and sizes of crunchy treats. She’s indifferent to them as a reward. Also not into peanut butter or cheese.
Any “can’t resist” suggestions?
Pepcid!
Small bits of cooked chicken breast are very popular training treats with my dogs. I used to boil them, and use the instant pot now.
Mine wasn’t interested in food treats when I brought him home for at least a few days, then it was on.
I buy freeze dried treats; chicken and beef liver mostly. It did take my latest puppy a bit to get used to the idea of “treats” but he picked it up fast!
I picked up some Aldi Pure Being Beef & Cheddar treats and some Wellness Soft Puppy Bites while running errands today, and both seem to be hits. The cats can’t resist them either, and poor Rainbow got swatted and her treat stolen away from her.
Boy oh boy teething kicked in full force today. Her new nickname should be Jaws. Puppy Benebones were buy one get one 50% off at the store, so we are building quite the collection of toys.
Also bought a fab, inexpensive air purifier from Amazon that arrived today. I’ve always been low key allergic to a lot of dogs, and no fail, Rainbow was triggering my allergies pretty significantly. I’ve had it running a couple hours now and not only do my allergies seem improved, but it has basically eliminated the dog odor. 10/10!
Didn’t someone post the other week that puppies are just mouths with legs.
I am glad you found a treat she enjoys. Her little brain just had to figure out they were good and I laughed at her getting her treat stolen by the cat. That’s funny. I guess we know who is boss.
Happy one week!
We are figuring things out. She survived the work week and daytime crating well, with the help of a pet sitter midday. I found a YouTube channel that I’m loving, McCann Dog Training. I really seem to jive with their approach.
Day 20 and we have pipping!
These chicks are punctual. Curious to see what they look like since I have NO clue about the parents.
Two very punctual chicks! I have no idea what their breeding is; just a barnyard mix. But so far so good! I can’t wait to see what they develop into.
That last egg is a quitter that I need to toss.
Does the hen always look that serious, or do chickens not have facial expressions?
Yes. They are like feathered dinosaurs.
She is actually a very sweet hen. And she has been perfectly content to let me mess with the eggs and now the chicks.
Is she a regular hen mother to them?
If you don’t want to wait to figure out what color they will probably be as adults, there are resources online that can help translate baby colors. I know the Murray McMurray catalog used to tell you what color chicks to expect with the various breeds and varieties so that you could id them upon receipt because they’re so different until their adult feathers come in.
And Feathersite has a huge library of chick photos of various breeds:

You would have to know what the adults’ coloring looked like for it to be helpful, but if nothing else, it’s fun to scroll through!
Puppy is 10 weeks and got a new bed for when she’s hanging out at the barn. She is doing really well.
Chicks are a week old today. It is so much fun to watch momma hen raise them.
This is one lucky puppy!! Congrats.
