Purchasing Fake Tail

Hi! I need to order a fake tail for one of my hunters and was wondering if anyone has suggestions for online retailers. I’ve looked at a few but wanted to order from a reputable retailer or to buy one from someone in the H/J world looking to sell theirs. Looking for a 1.5lbs+ light grey tail. Please let me know if you have any suggestions! Thank you

There is actually a FB group called Used Horse Tail Extensions, if you know exactly what you are looking for it might be worth browsing what is there. Also, if you haven’t asked your regular braider if they have a preferred source, be sure to ask - that’s how I sourced mine.

Thank you! I’ll check out that group. I checked with my regular braider and they don’t have anything on hand that would match at the moment but I’ll ask where they source theirs.

The Show Pen! You want the hunter natural loop. https://www.theshowpen.com/ They are super helpful with questions and color matching as well.

Uniquely Different Tails.

She’s super affordable. I have 5 from her. They are good quality and have held up very well.

@Tha_Ridge and @TheHunterKid90 Thank you for the suggestions!!

Tenney’s had a bunch in their trailer this weekend. Talisman Tails in KY was also great to work with… both of them have decent full tails and Talisman can give you options based on their inventory.

How do you determine how much tail you need? I can’t for the life of me remember what we used to use back in the day with our other horses!

I could kick myself now for leaving all our things at an old barn when we thought we were out of horses

For the vast majority of horses, one pound of hair in a 38" to 41" length will be the right thing.

I agree. 1lb suits most all horses well. It will fill out an exceptionally thin tail but won’t look overdone on a horse with a good tail. (I use tails for the purpose of adding weights so they don’t always need a bunch of tail added, just quiet it a bit)
I buy the 36” length but I have Reiners (who aren’t big horses to begin with) and we keep tails short so they don’t get backed over (above the fetlocks). I think the 39” length would suit most horses.
