Purchasing Rimadyl online

sigh my 10 year old Lab who is chock full of lumps has a hind leg that has a large tumor on it. The vet has said that the only option would be to amputate his leg, but suggests not doing so. Frankly, I’m not putting the dog through that.

He was doing good until right before Christmas and then he was really lame, the leg was hot. We went to the vet and that was when we discussed amputation etc and I made it known that I was more about quality vs qty. The vet feels that he has cancer and that we should just keep him comfy. We could send out a sample to find out what we are dealing with but I have opted not to do that, hang me, shoot me, what ever. Yes I love the dog, but we don’t have tons of money. I have another sr dog that is facing a tooth extraction and the vet bills are mounting.

Anyway, we went home and I really thought on Christmas day that I would be putting him down because he was that uncomfortable. I loaded him up on Rimadyl and Tramadol and slept on the floor with him. My husband wasn’t quite ready to let him go. I also had some antibiotics for my little dog that I said aw the heck with it and gave them to Jack because I was wondering if that leg was hot because of an infection (the vet didn’t think so). Thursday morning he was moving around better. I don’t know if it was the Rimadyl finally kicking in or if it was the antibiotics.

I called the vet and told her I wanted to do a round of antibiotics so we are doing that and Rimadyl and he seems to be ok, the leg doesn’t seem to be as hot to me. Not 100% but definitely not on the verge of needing to be put down.

So any way, sorry for such a long story, the vet said she would write me a prescription to get Rimadyl online. Where is the best place to order it from?

What online places does your vet recommend? I’d ask them. Many of the online places sell counterfeit. :frowning:

She hasn’t suggested anything yet. We are still using the pills that we bought from them, but I know I am going to have to reorder more soon. I will ask her. I don’t want to end up with bad pills :frowning:

Do you know that Walmart pharmacies now cover pet prescriptions too? And at Walmart prices!

Oh good to know. We did buy his antibiotics at Target because it was cheaper. They allowed us to print a coupon out and use that. Would have cost over a $100 at the vet and we got them for $30 at Target.

Definitely shop around. The price disparities might blow your mind. Good luck.

Well, I did get ours from smart pak but they are getting out of the dog pharmacy business. I have a friend that gets his fron fosters and smith and he has no complaints.

Our vet will match on-line prices. Perhaps you can ask. Also-for cancer I’ve heard that prevacox (sp?) may work better for pain

Drs Foster and Smith.

My vet used to match online prices, too. But when I showed him Drs Foster and Smith’s prices, he said he couldn’t even buy them that cheaply.

I’ve been ordering from them since before there was an internet. Very reliable company.

Thank you. He is doing pretty well right now. He was quite thrilled that it snowed out and kept putting his head in the snow. I’m thrilled that we have more time it seems. My heart was breaking on Christmas day.

Generic Rimadyl is Carprofen and is half the price. I get mine from KV Vet. My vet faxes them the prescription with refills for the 100mg tabs. My lab/boxer gets 1/2 a tab, 50mg a day so it lasts longer.

Wow thanks!

I haven’t tried this, so I’m not 110% sure, but during our most recent health insurance meeting, the Blue Cross rep handed out pharmacy cards that could be used to get discounts on medications not covered by our insurance - including pet medications. I believe it’s a separate company from the insurance:

I get the Novox (generic Rimadyl) from Valley vet for half the price of Rimadyl. It’s not chewable, so you have to give it in food, but I got my old dogs meds from them for well over a year and have had a great experience with them.

I get the generic from kv vet as well, it’s quite cheap especially if you buy it in very large bottles.

re: the old dog, don’t you even want to do a simple needle biopsy or a quick ultrasound scan on the lump? if it’s hot and going down in response to antibiotics, maybe it’s just an easily treated abscess, or a cyst or something along those lines? I can see not doing any invasive or expensive tests, and of course if it’s malignant skipping any treatment, but a fine needle biopsy takes no time at all, is cheap, and doesn’t really bother the dog.

The lump hasn’t gone down at all unfortunately. The heat did seem to go out of it although I could be imagining that. He has had the lump for quite some time now and it was only recently that he was sore. He has done great on the rimadyl. He just finished the antibiotics so we will see how he does. As of right now he has been doing good, he is even going up and down the stairs again. This swelling goes all around his upper leg and the vet said the only option would be amputation and even felt that even she would not opt for amputation.
