Purchasing/transporting a horse from Canada

Ha! She is gonna come live with my IDSH! And because I’m a glutton, Maybe Baby 2024 is due in May I think, another IDSH  If I can hit a hat trick with another bay filly, I would be very happy indeed. This one needs a new barn name, I’m not in love with it and the seller said her daughter wanted to come up with it and the seller doesn’t like it either… She is currently “Ziggy” but I’ve just been calling her Baby Horse. My Libbi came with Libbi and it fit her wonderfully, but this one doesn’t look like a Ziggy.

Thank you! I spoke to the vet and he agrees the system up there makes things tricky - 10 days to two weeks to get the certificate back from (??) CFIA? something anyway, but it’s only good for 30 days from the date of the blood draw. So I’m either staying on top of the transport company and the timing works out or I’m doing a mad run up the Rockies regardless, which I really, really don’t want to do…

 She looks like a “Phoebe” to me :woman_shrugging:t2:

Yes, CFIA: Canadian Food Inspection Agency

I suppose “adorable baby horse” is too long for a name.

Congrats on the PPE going smoothly.

I have always loved the name Celeste and given the vet gave her good marks for manners, seems appropriate. Hope the pending weather does not cork up your transport plans.

What pending weather?? :flushed: :flushed: :flushed:

Ohhh Celeste is cute too! But I shorten things, would it be Celly? That’s slang for cellmates  Or Lessie? I also have Ellie and Nellie as possibles.

Snow is a coming, later this week, as early as Tuesday. Current forecast for Stevens is 24 inches, Snoqualmie 12, not aware of BC forecast

no easing in to it

Ohhh those aren’t in my path at all! Whidbey to Sumas (Abbotsford) and back!

but the commercial hauler? I thought the peanut was further east.

Edmonton is getting hit with snow, and apparently worse to the south (Calgary), I doubt it will last though, and you should be able to get a nice weather window to haul in, in the coming weeks. Your new filly looks lovely, and pretty relaxed, so hopefully the trip goes smoothly.

North of Edmonton by several hours, so hopefully it doesn’t last and the hauler gets a good window! I was just told by the vet that the cert will be in the office on Monday (eep!)

looking forward to seeing more of your filly. The one photo, gosh she is quite solid.

Ahhemm, yep, I’m afraid snow is forecast for the eastern part of this province as early as tomorrow [:grimacing:, sorry], which means the main artery, the Coquihalla will have snow, and the alternative, the Fraser Canyon, is likely to as well. But by next week- who knows- it could be summer weather again for the trip, or sunny but verrrrrry cold (which at least she’ll be used to) :woman_shrugging:

The heck! Is weather.com not reliable up there? Because it’s not so dire!!

Ohh trust me, my social will be baby central for a few weeks… I’ll share more here when I can

Well, it all depends which weather app we follow, like horse people- 3 apps, 3 different scenarios!. I just heard/watched it on our local new this morning: “local” news and weather station

I follow Michael Snyder on You Tube ( PNW weather watch if you enjoy geeking on the science ) as well as AccuWeather app. Michael is the weather guy for Alaska airlines as well as college professor, He also has a You Tube channel for California weather

Radar shows snow in the high altitude north cascades in the last hour.

I just chatted with a friend in Calgary and she was wearing her winter coat (indoors) and lamenting at the amount of snow coming down. She shared the misery by saying “don’t worry it’s coming to you next” LOL (I am one province over). As others have said. By this time next week it could be snowy and cold or it could be summer again. You never know, especially in AB.

I should have just gone with the baby. I liked the baby to begin with, yanno. But I thought I was being fiscally responsible by getting a slightly older horse ready to start thinking about under saddle work so switched to the half sister. Now I’m two PPEs down with winter around the corner

This is proof to always get the baby!!

Congratulations! She sure is cute . I’d be a bit concerned about doing mega hauling with a youngster.

Weanlings haul fine, and she’ll be in a box stall the whole way. I’m not worried at all. I shipped Libbi as a long weanling from TN to WA, she arrived in fine form.
