Purchasing/transporting a horse from Canada

To each their own, I don’t make my horses stay in a trailer for more than 6 hours without a break. Twelve plus hours straight seems rough.

Okay.

Ohh boy it’s getting real, the health cert came in ahead of schedule so she is potentially on a trailer next week instead of the following!

The transport company is picking her up Friday, she will have to spend the weekend in a lay over facility on the Canadian side, and then I’m traveling up to get her Monday! She is getting furry and tall, and I’m getting impatient!

The shipper has bumped again. She (tentatively Ellie) is now due to be delivered a scant two or three days before her international health cert expires. Am I losing it? Yeah a little bit. The seller is looking for someone else, even a private party, who can at least get her part way because the communication has sucked and she only found out we were delayed again because she messaged to confirm for this Friday yesterday and was told “no, that driver isn’t available and the other truck is still east.” I wasn’t told at all and had to call the company after the seller told me, and while the phone was ringing I was getting texts from them like “oh yeah we should tell the actual client.” Allegedly this new trip is coming across and going to Portland, so for a broker fee they will bring her right on down to meet me 40ish min from my house at the Interstate somewhere versus me getting her in Canada after staying at a layover facility all weekend. My brain is a mess because how can I trust them to get her on this trip?

It would however work out wonderfully if she can get on this truck, talk about convenient.

But argh.

I got talked off a ledge last night and am a little more at-peace about it, but I want my baby dangit! To counter the bleh news, here’s a cute video of her from a few weeks ago. I don’t know how tall her daughter is, but she rides Ellie’s dam in eventing and she’s 16.1 and broad and doesn’t look mismatched sooo… :astonished:

Yike!

Well, I follow the maxim that things happen as they’re supposed to, so either the transport company WILL do their job, or the seller will find you an alternative, but I fully believe she’ll be in your barn in the next few days! So excited for you!!

As for her size, that’s one skookum baby, I’d say around the 14/14.2hh?
(Mind you, I’m barely 5’1" and I ride a 16.3hh, so :woman_shrugging: …)

Well I asked a few weeks ago out of curiosity when she sent a picture, and she told me about 13.2. And she has definitely grown since then and is still all leg! I’m not quite 5’4’’, I usually say I am because I’m usually wearing shoes  So if she stays around her parents’ heights I’ll be happy (16.2 & 16.1). I say the same with my 3.5 yo now (parents are also 16.2 & 16.1) but not only does she keep squiching upward, she is built like a tank and has a whole acre of booty.

how exciting!!! Will say the little gray pony in that picture looks like it might be a cute little package too, based on that hind end.

she is substantial though and looks much more mature than in that video

Oh she is ADORABLE! I bought her four years ago as a flip and am finally getting around to it  and she is currently getting the dust knocked off and then will be for sale at a high-end consignment barn nearby. I’m hopeful she will be a kiddo’s fancy Xmas present, if you know anyone up in the area.

SHE’S HERE.

Additionally, she is cute beyond words so more pics. And uh yeah, she’s tall. Also, with those legs, her barn name is Volley. Ellie was definitely not a fit in person, nor was anything else.

She was stocked up from being on a trailer for two days, so I popped her into the sacrifice paddock to move around, get fresh air, and get some sunshine.
