The legs don’t fit the rest of her! I hope you are a tall person because when she does grow into those legs you are going to have a lot of horse. She is lovely and glad she made it to you safely.

I am not  That’s me in the picture, my feet are next to her off front foot and she is that tall. I’m 5’4’’ in shoes.

Thank you!

The best part of her is her darling little personality. She was fed maybe a handful of pellets now and then and has been running in a herd, and is now stuck in a stall. She did indeed get shipping fever, I had been checking her temp (she is cool with that but not a fan) and it started going up Sunday night, peak yesterday at 102.3. My vet ran out and drew blood and gave her an antibiotic while I was at work yesterday and she’s feeling better today with a lower temp, but this whole time not feeling the best I’m sure but she’s still plucky and sweet. Kept right on eating and drinking and pooping and peeing like a champ. And she now knows what cookies are and has nailed the expectant face

I got to leave work early and had a wellbaby appt scheduled for her microchip and to check her vitals, etc, for the probable shipping fever… So I put Volley out. Poor thing is so stocked up! Her blood work from Monday showed anemia and low protein, which isn’t helping. So out she went and did she ya-ya around like I would expect a normal been-stalled baby? Nope, not really  I did get video of the one time she decided to zoom two laps around the upper part of the paddock, but it lasted all of 20 seconds. It’s not amazing because I’m way at the bottom but it’s there. The bay on the other side of the gate is my 30 yo Morgan who is (was?) 15.2.

Baby zoomies, even from a distance are the BEST! And whoa! She’s a big lil’ girl.

You may have mentioned earlier, but how big are her parents?

Dam is 16.1, sire is 16.2. Both are heavy, normal big Irish Draught, not the overly heavy “drafty” (but still athletic as hell) look some of the modern ones are getting (IMO). I have some frozen semen for one of those really big guys, but I want to find a lighter WB mare, maybe Dutch, to cross it on. Dam is the grey, she is class 1 and got bronze merit for her jump, sire is also class 1.

For shits n grins, this is the 3 yo at her inspection where she also went class 1. Same dam, but her sire is the sire of Volley’s sire, so she is a half sister and an aunt to Volley and a pretty indicator of what she will look like. Seller and I agree Volley’s sire may have given Volley a little more leg than the 3 yo has, he’s taller and a little more refined. But she definitely resembles her half brother, Volley’s sire.

Sire is very handsome. I could see how he would make a good cross on the right TB mare. Add some bone, substance and good solid feet.

Does the vet have a theory about why the anemia and other blood work level abnormality?

She’s great @TheJenners!

She is darling. Remind me of her pedigree? She and her parents are lovely types… and you may need to buy a ladder for when she grows into those legs!

Nothing nefarious, probably a little diet and parasite load. Not a knock on the seller! Diet is hard enough to manage on easy keepers and still meet nutritional needs, I couldn’t imagine trying to do it in the great white north.

Irish Draught, dam is All Maybelle (Lionwood Kinsale’s Lad) and sire is Epona’s Emhran Mo Chroi (Moorpark Image). Doing pedigree, lots of jumpers.
