Purchasing/transporting a horse from Canada

Well if she’s like Libbi… the latter. Other than being booty high here and there, she never had that awkward pencil-neck-jutting-shoulder look that makes us all want to hide our babies behind the barn  Libbi has been proportionate all along but only recently did she really start looking like a whole ass adult. She’s been the “baby” in the barn for so long that it wasn’t until Volley showed up that Libbi looked, well, less like a baby.

I plan on sticking Volley this coming week sometime, anyone wanna guess??

That shot of Volley watching your dad is great.

What a cutie, congratulations! Irish draughts are really such cool horses. I had a gelding by Castana that could jump the moon and I was always impressed by how light on his feet he was, given his size and substance. I’d love another one day. Best of luck with your filly, please keep sharing updates and photos!

Thank you! She is my third, I had an IDSH gelding and have an IDSH mare who just went off to be started. She has an incredible personality so the barn is very quiet and I miss her. Volley is still just as as calm about everything as can be, it’s almost concerning even if it is a breed characteristic. Last night I took her blanket off to check her out real quick, then literally swung it back like she was an old school horse used to these things. She never moved and just kept her head turned looking for a cookie. Even Libbi (the mare) would blow at her blanket still.

I also had a gelding by Castana that I bought as a 4yo. I showed him through the low a/o jumpers, did some of the adult eq and foxhunted a bit. Then he went to a friend who showed him in the jumpers, trail rode, took dressage lessons and gave up/down lessons on him. He’s 25 now and retired but still in great shape.

Like you, I could never believe how athletic he was for an RID!

Okay pulled her for a brush and another round of dewormer, and went ahead and sticked her. Of course, she didn’t care in the least, didn’t even look at it.

13.2 and about a third. @chestnutmarebeware you were super close! Since it warmed up with our Pineapple Express coming through I pulled her blanket, so of course this morning she’s totally soaked, filthy, and as happy as can be

She’s grown another inch already!

Also, this is the face you get when the reward for getting your feet done is getting dewormed

Still battling parasites, sigh. She has been dewormed with ivermectin twice two weeks apart and this past week she passed a live bot fly larva, so today she got quest plus. She is definitely in better shape, she feels better and her belly is less full looking, but trying to get ahead of the buuuuugs. Farrier still loves her, says her feet are in great shape and of good quality. He likes her in general too, he’s a sports horse guy who moved up here from doing the California circuits so he has a good eye. You never know who the guy in the hoodie and muddy shoes in your barn aisle is until you do some Googling… :astonished:

Good heavens, Jenners, she’s fricking adorable! And that’s coming from somebody who raised the cutest damn Corgi puppy the world has ever seen😉

If that’s her grumpypants face, I think I’d die of the cute for her happy face!

(Maybe she’s taking lessons from Odie and Argie?)

Oh trust me, Odie and Argie rock grumpypants faces. She looks so betrayed, to me at least

Thank you!

You’re going to have a big girl on your hands @TheJenners.

Big, smart and sarcastic. That’s the look I’m getting from her. You’re going to have fun with this one aren’t you? I’m happy for you. :+1:

I am! She has already learned her name and comes to it. Volley is a less drama than Libbi was at the same age, which I took as “less personality” at first but now her dry sense of humor is seeping through  But she has a solid thinking brain on her, which I’m going to appreciate for sure. Right now Libbi is at the trainer’s with all her sass and drama, pretending she is feral and costing me money (I can already sense best course of action is more time there than I planned :money_with_wings: :money_with_wings: :money_with_wings: ) and I think Volley will be much easier.

Sounds like you have a good team of professionals around you to make your progress solid. I particularly appreciate a farrier who has been and done all the things

She looks like the type who will trust you if you are fair and firm. :+1:

Right?? In my neck of the woods, farriers are either not “horse people,” or they only do western/roping. Finding Mario has been a huuuuuge blessing and I’m willing to pay for it. He has done race horses and show horses and even breeding and clinics, he knows his stuff. My vet uses him too, she’s an FEI vet (until she retires :sob:) and has her bronze, and the trainer Libbi is with has her silver, is a saddle fitter and just got advanced training in bridle fitting. It took years to suss out a good team. When I first moved up here from east coast and midsouth hunterland, I thought I was in a barren world of “gaming events,” and it was depressing as hell.

I think that’s most horses, but with less drama it’ll make my life easier. I had Rory for 12 years before he went over the bridge and he was the king and queen of drama

What is the opinion of your burritos on the new arrival?

Actually, they haven’t been introduced! I moved the burritos over to Rory’s old stall, which has an attached all-weather 24x48 run. Mostly because Volley and Bay are getting alfalfa. Volley for the low protein and Bay because his old teeth can’t really chew anymore but he’s adept at shaking out the leaf and eating that. The donkeys definitely do not need that, especially since Argie has decided to go on strike and not eat his handful of feed if he gets even a whiff of prascend  and they are both little tubbies. Odie’s harness was noticeably tighter Friday when he got hoisted up for the farrier.

But also the muck under the leanto - everything else no muck, but under the leanto is like 2’’ of blech and I don’t want the donkeys in it. Weather was decent this weekend to fix it but then we remembered stupid holidays and the quarry would probably be closed. I want to move them over so Volley has friends now that we’ve probably addressed the nutrition issue with all the alfalfa she can eat for the last five weeks and gotten her on solidly on nutritious food, so Bay can start going out around the house during the day again and having alfalfa and I don’t have to worry about the donkeys having access to alfalfa.

This is everywhere in the sacrifice paddock that isn’t directly under the leanto, I snapped it yesterday morning.

I will say that slowly transitioning Volley off fulltime alfalfa is not without its bumps  This was her this morning, quietly objecting to the very full bag of -gasp- timothy/bluegrass. By quietly I mean she was hitting the door but quit as soon as I got my phone out, she thought she was getting a cookie since my hand went into a pocket.
