Purina Impact Pro Performance?

I’ll be moving my 7yo TB to a new barn in the next couple of months that feeds Impact Pro Performance. My guy is currently maintaining weight well on 6lbs of Ultium, 1lb of Amplify, and Outlast split between AM/PM feedings. He also gets 10-15lbs of 3rd cutting alfalfa and free choice grass hay. The Purina rep I spoke to said the two feeds are comparable.

Does anyone have experience with it? Haven’t seen much chatter here.

Since I doubt the calories are up there with Ultium at around 1900, they may be similar from a GA perspective, but not calories, and not from a minimum feeding rate.

Min for IPP for a 1200lb horse is 6.75lb for light work, and 9.25lb for moderate work. Ultium Competition is 5.5lb and 7.25lb respectively

The IPP is 16.5% NSC vs UC at 17.5% but you’ll make up that difference by feeding more, so from that perspective, it’s likely a wash.

You’ll just have to try it and see how it works.

I don’t pay any attention to what Purina reps say. They’re not nutritionists and half the time they don’t even know the info on the feed they’re talking about. I once had a ridiculous conversation with one—he kept referencing Race Ready and I was talking about Impact Race Track. He apparently didn’t even know his own company made such a feed.

I’ve also compared the feeding recommendation info in the white tags from the bags across various comparable Purina feeds and they make no sense. I feed Purina feeds because it’s what my long-time feed mill carries and my horses do just fine on it, but any time I change something up I just use common sense and make any adjustments on feeding amounts as I go based on my own observations. I’ve got TBs, so I’m never feeding less, always more.

Just popping back in to update since he’s been on the new feed for a little over 60 days. Really, really pleased with his appetite and body condition. We ended up making a pound for pound switch with Ultium. Thus far, we haven’t needed to increase beyond 6lbs.

He’s been a little fussy with grain previously (whether related to his ulcer history or just his preference or maybe some of both). I’ve been thrilled to see him lick the bucket clean every day. He’s even started nickering when he sees the feed cart coming, which is new.

N=1 so YMMV, but he seems to like this better than Ultium and the results are awesome so far.

I’m late coming into this thread, but Impact Professional Performance comes in at 1575 kcal/lb. and 17.5% NSC (11% starch, 6.5% sugar), for those who were asking earlier.
