Purina Strategy Healthy Edge or Wellsolve LS?

Which would you feed if you had the choice? Recently moved barns and these are the two options I have to choose from.

Mare is currently on Nutrena Safe Choice Special Care and doing well. She’s not getting much right now (3 qts/day) since she was out of work due to an injury, but will be going back into work soon.

Mare is 20, a relatively easy keeper, and I prefer to keep her on something lower in sugars/starches because she can be a little hot. I think there is a senior feed too but I don’t think that’s what I want since she would not be getting a “full serving” most likely. She has no dental issues and gets good hay 4x a day.

Thoughts? Neither one is my favorite but providing my own isn’t an option so I need to choose one of these once she runs out of the Safe Choice.

Thanks in advance!

My retired senior guys (two with Cushings) are doing well on Strategy Healthy Edge and they seem to like it a lot. Once the two were started on Prascend, the Healthy Edge was the only grain they would eat.

Thoughts? Neither one is my favorite

your mare is one that will have to eat it

can you try both, then chose the one she will eat ?

Yes, but considering that she has never met a grain she doesn’t like, I don’t think this will make the decision for me.

Luckily she is not picky, so I have the option of choosing whichever one is better quality-wise for her.

Wellsolve L/S has an NSC of 11% https://www.purinamills.com/purinami…).pdf?ext=.pdf

Strategy Healthy Edge NSC 16.5% https://www.purinamills.com/2.purina…t.pdf?ext=.pdf

Where NSC is the combined starches and sugars listed on the guaranteed analysis. If you want to go as low as possible on NSC, looks like Wellsolve L/S wins out. If she’s a really easy keeper, maybe see if they offer Purina Enrich Plus, it’s their ration balancer.
