Exciting times! I have the chance to pour some concrete and I wish to have my two current cats add their paw prints to it. Could you kindly give me a tutorial on how to do this well?
Thank you!

Easy. Tell the cats they are to stay away from the concrete then put up a fence to keep them out. You’ll have paw prints in no time!

Indeed. The script looks like this:
“Kittehs! See that section by the corner, exactly parallel to the front edge of the dark and wet and cool (and interesting and new) concrete? That’s exactly where I don’t want you to walk. I’m going out for bacon. This concrete will be here forever. I’m leaving you in charge of making sure that it looks good.”
Specific. Clear. Offers a “why” in the explanation; doesn’t just boss the cats around. Make 'em see the high stakes and feel invested in the job. Short sentences.
I’m sure this will work.
Just pour fresh concrete. Works like a bowl of food, especially up you shoo them away from it as you leave.
Make sure you wash their feet afterwards. Concrete can burn human skin so I assume it’s much the same for paws.
I had planned on having a “finger bowl” available (read: forced) for da kittehs afterwards. You all know what I mean? A fancy, maybe sterling little bowl of water on a dining room table meant to help civilize a meal that must be eaten with one’s hands?
But so much concern for the cats, and no concern for the concrete!
Still waiting for advice on making sure the cats perform adequately with producing their paw prints. Concrete is forever! I don’t want any cats screwing this up.
Can’t help you with how to do it but we poured concrete in our new grooming stalls never thinking about the barn cats. The next morning there were 4 perfect kitty feet and a couple of rat feet impressions in the concrete.
I think you’re underestimating your kitties’ abilities to get into mischief. Fresh concrete? Firm instructions to stay away? Opportunity for immortality??
I feel certain your cats will rise to the occasion and you will get your kitty feet as desired. But probably not in the pattern or direction you were hoping!
Update! The Immortalization is off. Contractors changed their mind about how to do it. Cats are off the hook. Cats probably had something to do with the design change.
Thank you for the faith you placed in my cats— sure they would put their paws where they belonged despite all instructions.
