Putting up a scratching brush

OK, got one of those livestock scratching brushes but am unsure where to put it.

The most available place is on the outside or entry of a run-in shed. However, it’s basically a prickly thing that would be at approximate eye level to be convenient for scratching. So, should it not be placed where horses might be more likely to inadvertently bump into it while going in or out of the shed?

Other locations would be outside on the side of the shed, in a more out of the way place where horses would have to seek it out. Otherwise, I’d have to put in a post somewhere, with concrete.

There are limited options elsewhere because the wood fence is hotwired.

Horses are very good at avoiding hazards they are familiar with. They will rapidly adapt to going in and out of a doorway without any problem. Except they may stop to have a scratch at annoying moments, like when you’re in a rush!

I’m putting mine on a pounded-in post in the field. I don’t want them rubbing on my shelter. My lease QH broke a 4x4 on the turnout shed rubbing his big ass on it.

Classic.

I have one sitting waiting to be put up. I have two huge poles the power company put in for security lighting and I am going to attach it to one of the poles. I have crappy plastic fence posts and my horses have pooped a few of the plastic posts in half backing up and rubbing their butts. No way can they break these poles.

Are there any safety concerns with these? I would love to put one up!

Ooo, I like that one and would put one or more up. I did a quick google search and didn’t see this particular brush. Cardinale, would you share where you got it? Thanks

Livestock Scratching Brush with 4 Screws

Amazon. Has good if limited reviews. I haven’t put it up yet but opened the box to take a look–seems decently made and sturdy. And no garish colors.

So funny you say that as it was exactly the garish colors that put me off the ones I found! Some of us just like quieter colors, I guess. It looks like the price is right too to use as an experiment and see if it gets used and not destroyed. Thanks.

Had to go look as I have been thinking about getting one for my gelding…and this seems a better deal yet.

Good catch…that looks like the exact same thing except 2 for the price of one. Amazon…where further searching often pays off.

I would personally be wary of a product with a brand name like that. In my experience, these mismatches / random / nonsense brand names are just generic products from China, that the seller just bought on Ali Baba and branded as their own. I do have fairly extensive experience in this, due to my work. Be aware that anything you read in the item description could be wrong, as these sellers often copy and paste descriptions from other brands and products. Many of them speak little to no English and aren’t even aware that what they are putting in is incorrect.

If both products look exactly the same, then they probably are. Manufacturers literally sell this stuff in bulk on Ali Baba and for a small amount more they will put your “brand” name on it as though it were a real branded product.

Just to be clear, I’m not knocking China or (necessarily) Chinese-made products. But I’m advising caution when purchasing something like this from a “brand” with a name like that.
