I had the same problem with my old girl. We put her on a daily low dose antacid I got at Wal-Mart. It really helped for quite a while. I’m surprised this hasn’t been suggested yet. It might be something to consider. Good luck as it’s tricky as they get older to find what works, and then what works again…
Well, she’s eating better but still not great. For now, I’ve been mixing her dog food with either the satin balls or canned tuna. Once the first batch of the satin balls are gone, I may make something a little soupier that I can soak her food in.
I’m not going to stress too much about it, she’s had a good life.
The new food is a definite hit with my other girls. No surprise for the catahoula – she’ll eat anyting – but the dane mix’s appetite has never been great and she’s eating most of her meals now, to the point that i might have to start measuring it out again. So a big thanks to whomever suggested the cainidae (that wasn’t in this thread – it was something I found in an older thread on this forum)!
WB Mom – what type of antacid did you use? A calcium carbonate one (like tums) or an aluminum hydroxide one (like maalox) or something else?
^ I’m glad she’s eating a bit better, hopefully you see some improvement soon. I certainly hope it’s not cancer. If it is, as you said, she had a wonderful life w/ you.
I’m glad you like the Canidae. I think it might have been me that suggested it as I suggest it on every dog food thread as I completely love it and think it’s absolutely the best food for the best price out there.
Best wishes for you and your dogs.
When my chihuahua mix was in CHF she became very particular about what she would eat. I ended up feeding her Hills n/d (high calorie rx food made for cancer patients) mixed with a homecooked diet- alternated protein sources and quinoa was her favorite. She was also on pepcid 2x daily. Good luck with keeping the old lady comfortable.
