Qualification for an A/O

So an A/O is an amateur owner, right? So what if I’m an amateur that does not own their horse (say, is catch riding) but wants to show in the 3’3 or 3’6? Is the A/O division seriously only open to those who own their own horses? How strict are they about this…can you show in the A/O’s if your leasing? Does this mean if your an amateur that does not own their horse, they have no choice but to show in 3’ instead?

There’s usually a 3’3" modified section for juniors and amateurs. For the AO divisions, you (or a family member) must own the horse. Leasing doesn’t count.

You can always show in an open division if you want to show above 3’3”.

It’s really quite simple.

If you (or a family member, or an LLC owned by you) don’t own the horse, you cannot show it in the amateur-owners.

If you want to jump those heights and don’t own, you’re pretty much limited to the open divisions.
