Melissa Miller-Slusser’s Detail Specialist is an Appendix that competed at the 3* level.

What about roping bred horses? I’ve always felt that they would make a good basis for a jumping horse.[/QUOTE]
Mine (Show Jumper… though are pondering Eventing) is a ranch bred QH. He was used as a head horse before turning broncy. He was then used as a bucking horse. We have finally channeled his athletic ability into something he enjoys!
I have evented 2 QHs in the past 2 years. Both are grade, no papers, but have been really nice mounts overall. Safe, sane, and willing all around. Maybe not the scopiest jumpers or best movers, but respectable in dressage and safe around XC. Sold one to a teenager and kept the other for myself!
I evented with my registered appendix “Penny Jackpot” thru Intermediate, and did 3 CCN* (yes I am that old!). Sue and Frizbe were worthy opponents!!
I have a registered appendix mare that I’m eventing…she’s in her first full year of competing and she’s consistently getting dressage scores in the 20s at novice…now if we could just get those rails to stay up. Her name is Sea Change for both AQHA and USEA. I got her from Phyllis Dawson, who also has her sister for sale. I’d love an AQHA eventing program!
Unable to confirm at this time, but I believe at least one of the horses on the 1987 US Pan Am Eventing team was a QH cross.
My eventer is a full blooded foundation AQHA! He’s 17 and going strong! In fact we rode in PA with two CCI**** riders and all they did was sing AQHA praises about how awesome the breed and how talented. I for a long time have been a huge advocate for QH’s. My dream one day is the to find the ultimate QH that goes all the way, Rolex maybe
I have a friend who owns arabians and is very active in Sport Horse Nationals. SHN is an offshoot for people who want to compete against other arabians but don’t like the main ring shows.
I heavily influenced her with my interest in eventing and my eventing her horses and she got a combined test added to Sport Horse nationals after attending many of my shows. She also has a sort of side award where you submit recognized horse trials that you competed in under your horse’s registered name and the person with the best record wins. I believe they also had a combined award for Jump Start if you competed on your arabian while you were also competing at SHN since both shows took place at the same time and place. So you could not only get a ribbon and prize for placing at Jump Start but a ribbon and prize for SHN!
Maybe you could approach it in that manner.
My best buddy, who inspired the blog in my sig, is an Appendix and an AWESOME eventer: if there was ever a horse born to do XC, it is Solo!
I got him at age 10 and evented him up to T. He’s not registered that I know of, but he is USEA registered. Fantastic jumper up to about 3’ (hock arthritis and a weak back limited him), although had to retire from N/T in 2011 after injury.
He luckily can still do small stuff though and is only the BEST HORSE EVAH!
Doesn’t really help as mine aren’t registered at all, but I have a pinto from cutting lines and an Appy whose dam was a registered QH and both event. There are plenty of stock types in eventing
I plan on getting my baby out and doing some smaller stuff once she gets old enough. She’s a reg. appendix, and it’s been my plan all along. If we had any of the young event horse stuff in my area, we’d definitely be doing them.
I would LOVE to see this happen. Heck, I’d even re-join AQHA just to show support for the idea.
Mike Huber won the individual gold medal at the 1987 Pan Am’s riding Quartermaster - an appendix registered QH.
My QH evented exactly twice at BN before retiring due to arthritis, but she was registered and should show on the USEA site if that is helpful to you! Let me know and I will email you her name.
I only evented my hunting qh once, novice, here in Utah in 1997. First time I’d evented since 1975 or so. He won. So along about 2019 I will try it again with my qh made, maybe.
But seriously I think there are a lot out there and Janet’s idea is good.
Our horse, Stretch, is a registered Quarter Horse. He evented with the name Lickety Split but that is not the name on his AQHA papers. Retired now, at age 31, he still looks amazing. I believe Mike Huber started him.
Not sure this helps OP, as he is no longer active, but I will be happy to find his registration and record, if you think it would help.
I’m still here! Just letting everyone chime in and trying not to clutter te thread up too much with a bunch of “thank you” posts. But seriously, THANK YOU to all who have replied so far! Your information helps out a lot! For any who are still following and don’t mind going through the steps, would you please log on to

And support the idea. This is an idea page set up by AQHA and they very much see and will respond to popular ideas.
I have it in my head that Mike Huber’s Gold Chip was, or had some, QH.
I have an Appendix, Dragonlady Anne, but looking up our record won’t help much since we’re pretty much committed to levels below BN at this point
My two are successful (lower levels, I am old and they are small) Milligans Chatterbox and Here Comes The Lady. Lady is now competing with a youth under the name of Bridgett.
