Question about colts.

We have noticed something with our colt that I want to make sure is normal. He almost always has his penis dangling out. While I am sure this may be a silly question for most, this is our first colt in 15 years, so obviously didn’t have this issue during our filly streak. He urinates normally and it sure doesn’t stop him from running, jumping and playing. Just curious is this is normal or something we could keep a closer eye on. TIA

In my experience, baby colts don’t “pull it in” all the way initially.

My colt is 3 weeks old and still keeps it out dangling. He pees normally etc and I have had other colts do that as well. As they get older, they “pull it in” so to speak.

Here’s a photo from this weekend – I am assuming that this is what you are speaking of?

It takes them a while to learn how to fully operate the equipment. He will get it figured out soon.

I had a colt last year that always had it dangling out, moreso than Kris’s colt in the picture. He’s a yearling now and knows how to put it away.

Thank you everyone.

This is an action shot of Super Boo with his trusted sidekick Winky.

I am a bit of an expert on colts…seeing as our mares have decided never to have fillies! I have yet to have a col that “holsters his gun”. They are always dangling, so what your colt is doing is completely normal.

LOL stoicfish!! That is what I figured. I even tried taking a picture from behind but “it” even ends up in those pictures. All kidding aside I am glad to see it is normal

Lets hope Molly changes that streak and gives us a filly in a week or two:winkgrin:

He is simply trying to be prepared for action. What that might mean, he has no idea  just… Prepared!

Again, love that neck. Moms?

Oh, I’m sure you will get a filly, as you’ve spoken for the foal already. If I owned the foal…it would come out a colt!

love the ball picture… never too early for phantom training i always say…

I like the shape of moms neck but it would be considered on the shorter side. I think Escapade has a lot to do with that. I am liking what I see and love how he uses it though.

Our vet actually said sometimes it means that they are hot… (temperature wise) LOL But yes our colts do it too, so no worries.

I have only seen Gizmo’s sucked up when he’s laying down, and even then, not all the time LOL Yes, even at 7 weeks, he’s still got it swayin’ in the breeze most of the time.

Totally normal. All my colts have let theirs hang free. Some as late as 4 months or so.

Photoshop is your friend!!!
