So if a sandwich case is attached to the saddle at the top, doesn’t it flop around at the trot and canter? If I were I horse I don’t think I’d like that. I would think it might be more secure if the bottom could the attached to the billets or something like that. I am only asking because I have a sensitive chestnut TB mare.
A true sandwich case has 3 straps. Two that attach to the saddle near your seat and a third that attaches to the billet straps.
There are some cheaper cases for sale that only have 2 straps.
Proper sandwich case;

Yes, it will flop. However, you can get a cheaper case and have a leather repair person add a strap to go to the billets. Using a square saddle pad can reduce the annoyance for a sensitive horse. Of course, always test out whatever you are going to hunt in before the actual hunt.

I think she would prefer a square pad even if the sandwich case does have a billet strap. However, I was under the impression that square pads were not used by the fox hunting set.
Cut a sandwich case size square of sheepskin out with two holes in the top for the buckles and run them up through behind it so the sheepskin is between the sandwich case and the horse
I was curious about this so I google this image, if it helps. It looks like it would still flop around a little, but the sheepskin idea looks like it would work well:
Mine flopped a little, but it has two strips to fasten to the D’s on my saddle, and then another-longer strap to run through my girth straps… Same with my radio case. Never have had a horse bothered or rubbed by one.
I carry one often - if you get it on there tightly enough (billet strap pretty short, dee ring snaps/straps nice and short) it doesn’t flop too much.

No, they aren’t generally, but it’s better to discreetly commit a minor fashion crime rather than get bucked off while you are in the testing phase! Having a billet strap helps a lot. Also, you can actually glue sheepskin directly to the back of your sandwich case.
Thanks for all of the ideas. I think she might just want some padding as could be affixed to back of case. Also will definitely get something with a billet strap. I don’t think she would buck if she just had one flopping around because she is a pretty good girl but of course there are no guarantees. Just want my little red head to be happy.
I have a cheap one sans billet strap, and it doesn’t seem to bother my horse. He can be weird about stuff, but not in any predictable manner lol!
Sandwich cases are for Formal Attire classes. Doesn’t your coat have pockets?

We went hunting. With a very formal pack. Most people carried their sandwiches in their pockets. People didn’t carry flasks, either. Drinking was for later. And, except for two women who were teased unmercifully for it, noone wore shadbellies. Not at all like horse shows.
The pockets on my hunt coat are too narrow and not deep enough to hold a sandwich.
And as far as drinking, after going for a run on a red fox, a run on a coyote and then another run on a red…20 miles later, you can bet I was glad I had something to wet my whistle and to offer to our huntsman!
I have a sandwich case that holds a decent sized flask and a granola bar or two. My coat pockets carry my phone, Chapstick and mints.

how strict are the formal attire classes? Does the judge check inside the sandwich case for the correct type of sandwich and with the crust cut off?
I used to carry my gps in my sandwich case so I could see how far and where we went. I find it easier to keep my flask in my pocket. Although one time that led to a peculiar square shaped bruise.

I was caught once with a particularly moldy sandwich that had been there all spring. Judge said he wouldn’t drop me in the order if I would eat it. I declined. Went from second to third.
