I will be moving my horse next week and want to put him on Ulcergard as a preventative measure. Just wondering how long would you be inclined to give it after the horse has moved?
For me it would depend on how well (or not) the horse settles in at the new place.
Start at least 4 days before you leave so it reaches full efficacy before the move. How long you continue will depend on how the horse settles in. For the normal horses, I usually do 7 days. For the problematic ones, 1 month.
2-3 days before the move and 5-7 days after the move. If the horse doesn’t settle well or is generally an anxious type, I would go longer. I use the preventative dose (1/4 tube), not the full treatment dose (full tube).
What leheath said. My vet recommends 3-4 days (1/4 tube) prior to moving, days after depend on how the horse settles in (2-however long). Same for showing a nervous horse.
