Question... can you use a hackamore in western dressage?

I have to ride my husband’s western quarterhorse mare for a while. Looking to dabble in western dressage. Do I need to use a bit for competition?

There’s a couple of associations, I think:

WDAA
NAWD

both rulebooks are online. I am sure both permit bosals, etc just no mechanical hacks.
