How on earth does one remove the hub/wheel to check if its clean and greased inside? I’m really trying to check this out and for the life of me can’t figure out how to get inside to peek.
Thanks!

Care and Maintenance Instructions
Care:
Cleaning
Treat carriage like a car. Wash with soap and water or a light pressure wash.
Use California Duster to remove light dust.
Scratches
Use COTTON terry cloths or wash mitts or sponge.
Wax with regular automotive waxes if maintaining luster.
Some hash marks can be removed by using a blow dryer or heat gun, but will not remove heavy scratches.
Touch Up
Regular black paint from hardware stores, such as Tremclad, will work to touch up along with a small artist brush, Q-tip or paper match as an applicator.
NOTE! - Optional dress up panels are made from PVC Plastic and painted with automotive paint. DO NOT place panels in direct sunlight if panels are removed from carriage. They will
WARP in the sun! Care for panels the same as an automobile finish.
Vinyl Care
Soap and water or Windex. DO NOT us Armor All on seat! Doing this will cause the person to slide around without control.
DO NOT put dress up skirts or aprons in the washing machine. They will delaminate. Instead, use a bristle brush with soap and water then hose off.
Pinstripe
Pin striping is only a decal. Be careful not to mar or rub off. Available from automotive stores or Pacific Carriage.
Maintenance:
Wheels
Bearings are sealed and do not require maintaining unless bearings are actually worn out. Then replacement is required and provided by Pacific Carriage.
5th Wheel
Should NOT require maintenance. Occasional grease injections with a needle grease gun would benefit longevity of the 5th wheel.
Brakes
Be aware of brake pad wear. Once pad material is worn to metal, it is too late.
Brake fluid is accessible by sliding the front floor board forward.
Adjustments
Floor board slides forward and backwards for driver comfort.
Floor board slides to allow access to brake fluid canister on master cylinder. Brake fluid
levels should be maintained between the two raised ribs on the canister or at least ½ full. Do not fill to the top.
Delayed Steering
Floor board slides to provide access to the steering delay bolt. This is a 5/8 diameter bolt (15/16 wrench).
If bolt is in forward position (hole closest to front of carriage) carriage is in the delayed steering mode. Moving to center line of the axle is non-delayed.
Shaft Adjustments
Shafts can be adjusted in or out within the shaft receivers or rotated to adjust to the width of the horse. This is done by loosening the shaft bolts and retightening once settings are chosen. Different settings could be marked on the plastic shrink sleeve to act as reminders.
Shaft Shrink Sleeves
This is a replaceable item to act as a wear point and shim material between shaft and receiver.
It is easy to reapply if it is torn or worn.
Cut off old sleeve and use a heat gun to shrink on new sleeve material.
Shrink sleeves can be purchased from Pacific Carriage.
Replacement Parts
Occasionally some items need replacing due to wear and accidents.
Most common maintenance items are: shaft shrink sleeves, brake pads, shafts and stub axles (due to accidents) wheel rubber and wheel bearings (due to long term wear).
Ride Quality
A quiet ride can usually be maintained by the occasional application of some sort of spray lube to the springs. A light application to the leafs as well as in and around the buttons on each end of the springs. WD 40 is NOT considered a lubricant, it will evaporate! Something like “Loobit” or other spray lubricants would do.
Hub Caps
Hubcaps are only removable by removing wheel from axle and knocking them out from the inside of the stub axle. DO NOT PRY!
Optional Equipment:
Wedge Seat
Adjustable in height by opening up seat and placing adjustment blocks under the hinged seat.
Double Seat with Sliding Wedge
Wedge seat slides side to middle by removing a side cushion, sliding over wedge and replacing side cushion in the vacant opening.
Rear Groom Seat
Bolts to existing holes in rear platform.
Dress up Package
Side panels bolt to existing holes on the metal mesh and the front dash mesh.
Under seat skirts snap onto dress up plates which utilize the seat mounting bolts.
Note – Side panels are made of PVC plastic and should not be placed in direct sunlight if removed from the carriage.
Suggestions:
It is wise before each driving event, to glance over carriage and check for any loose hardware, such as single tree bolts, which may have worn slightly at the pivot point and are now sloppy or rattling.
Check play on wheels and look for worn brakes.
Check shaft bolts and receiver bolts.
Check brake fluid level.
Thank you for purchasing a Pacific Carriage. Enjoy!!!
