Question for the show dog people

The last time I showed was when I got paper premium lists in the mail and sent my entries back the same way. Things have changed!

I took a peak at the Onofrio website and it looks like they have online capabilities–is that how all entries are managed now? I also looked for a place to register for email notices about upcoming shows in my area, but was unable to find anything along those lines, or a place to input my address for the old mailed premiums

So how do you track what’s coming up? Do I really have to stalk the superintendents websites, or is there SOME sort of service that’s sort of analogous to the premiums showing up in my mailbox?

I’m not sure of an email sign-up. Once you enter one show, the premiums start coming (by email and paper mail). The AKC site actually has a pretty good search engine for competitions that is easy enough to use (can do zip code searches, etc) and is easier than looking at each individual super’s site to find what is coming up.

I do entries online through infodog.com, and they email premiums too (MB-F shows). 'Pretty much what artsmom said – once I entered shows, the premiums followed suit.

^ Ditto.

^ Ditto on www.infodog.com

Use this link:

http://www.infodog.com/showinfo/state.htm

And you can search shows in your state (or surrounding areas).

Even if they are not managed by MB-F, they are usually listed in upcoming shows and I believe you can enter via the MB-F (infodog) website. (I’m pretty sure I’ve done it, even though most shows around here are MB-F).

I use infodog.com. As others have said, once you enter a show the premiums start coming in the mail

Ditto the dittos. Have fun!

I use infodog.com as well. Once you enter one show, they will start mailing them again. I tend to enter online mostly, but still like to receive them in the mail as well, not sure why. Perhaps it brings me back to my youth. Online entering is so much more convienent…You enter the dogs info once and then it is there for all future entries. Infodog is an MBF superintendent service, but they handle shows for most other supers. The cutoff time is a little earlier for a non MBF show as they have to forward the info to the proper super. Once you get the hang of it, it really is so much easier.

Ah, so not everything has changed, eh? I’ll look at infodog a little more closely…did hit it up a few days ago, but saw that there was a fee, so lost interest.

Puppy is only 11 weeks (tomorrow!) so we have some time to sort things out. Oh, how do you track down fun matches and the like? Any good resources there?

^ pictures are required

I promise I have not been shirking my picture posting duty! There’s a thread about her here

I don’t really have any NEWER pictures, because she moves too damned fast and is currently about 90% teeth

I do need to find a place for puppy and conformation classes. Hoped to get recommendations from the dog people I know here, but they have not been forth coming. Is the best way to go audit a class or two at the various training centers to see if it’s the right fit? If anyone has input on Northern CO options, or know anyone in this area who might, I’d appreciate hearing any feedback that’s out there!

She is edible! Is her breeder open to helping y’all out?

She’s really a blast!

The breeder is in California, so not a whole lot of help with Northern CO options

Although I use Infodog to check on shows, judging panels, results, etc., to enter shows I use this free service: http://www.oaklines.com/ExpressEntries/Login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2FExpressEntries%2FDefault.aspx

It stores all your dog’s registration info and fills out the official AKC entry form for you, then you just print it out, sign it, enclose a check, and mail it, and it is free. You can store info on all your dogs. Infodog charges $3.95 per entry, which can add up, though it is handy for those last minute decisions.

I don’t do breed shows, but for agility trials, I use the AKC’s event search (some of our local clubs do their own secretary’ing, and some contract out, and no one sends out paper premiums!) That said, most of our local trials still use mail in entries (I just put two in the mail yesterday), though at least one club is accepting a certain percentage of entries via the AKC’s online service.

For breed shows (and some obedience/rally trials, if they’re in conjunction with a breed show), I get paper premiums from MB-F, but that seems to be based on my residence address, rather than what shows I’ve entered in the past (I live in MD, but I used to do a couple of clusters in NC - but I never get paper premiums for those). Stand alone obedience/rally trials are still something I generally follow using the AKC site.

Oh, here’s the link to the AKC events search: http://www.akc.org/events/search/

I also use infodog. Usually I enter online and will pay the fee if it’s just a 2 day show but for the last show (4 days/2 classes per day) I mailed it in. Since I always mail my entries certified mail there isn’t that much difference between the certified mail fee (something like $5??) and the online charge ($8 for two classes).

Off-topic question…

How long does it take to receive confirmation when entries are mailed? I entered my Deerhound bitch in all five days of Bluegrass Cluster and snail-mailed the entries to save about $20 in fees.

Now I’m starting to panic because I haven’t heard anything and the show is closed.

And Simke - HUGE congrats on your beautiful new puppy!!!

I’ve only done AKC obedience, but I’ve never gotten an email confirmation- a letter with info and a “ticket” to get in would arrive in the regular mail about a week before the event.

I’m old school and snail mail my entries to the show secretaries for obedience and agility. Granted, agility is only really done by snail mail. I used to use Infodog but they have this -

An additional fee of $15.00 will be charged for events handled by show secretaries and will be displayed to you before the entry is complete.

That craziness on top of their $3.95 for their own admin fee turned me off in a big way. $19.00 just to enter on top of the regular entry fee?? No way. That’s another entry fee for agility (NADAC or USDAA.)

I only enter online for shows that use MB-F as a superintendent so there is no additional $15 (just the $3.95).

I always request to have entry confirmation and number/judging program emailed to me and it’s always after the closing date.
