Presumably WEG COMPETITORS have passes to watch all competitions?
Why wouldn’t they?
One would hope so, but with the way they’ve been nickle & diming (well, more like twenty & fifty-ing) everything… who knows.
I would seriously hope they would…
Honestly the complaints about nickle & diming isn’t needed, remember this isn’t a regular horse show but rather a World Championship, or Olympics if you want to say so. I’ve never been to the Olympics but I’m assuming that and other major sporting events charge the same if not more for their events.
At the Olympics athletes have full access, why would this be any different?
I did go to the Olympics in Atlanta. Only got to see dressage due to my schedule, but the tickets were far cheaper than a comparable full WEG dressage set. They got you in for both morning and afternoon sessions in a day, too. Four tickets got you the entire dressage competition - 2 GP days, 1 GPS, 1 freestyle. I still have my ticket stubs and just looked at them. I had A seating for 2 days - $37 each. B seating for 2 days - $21 each. My total on tickets for the entire dressage competition was $116, which is less than I spent for my one WEG freestyle ticket.
I’m looking forward to the WEG, but yes, I do think they are nickle and diming it. Not referring just to the event coordinators but to the general area, hotels, etc.
I had already had the thought weeks ago that I will be quite interested to compare food/drink prices inside the facility. Like the WEG, at Atlanta, you were a captive audience once through the gates and couldn’t bring food in. The selection wasn’t wide, the prices were moderately inflated, but even at the time, I was a bit surprised Atlanta hadn’t jacked it up more.
I do remember that parking at Atlanta was a pain and a half. Don’t think it cost $20, though. And the shuttle was free, although it again was somewhat of a hassle. They also let us off about 1/2 mile from the main gate, I think, so there was still a walk from the shuttle. But it beat walking from the parking lot, which had to be several miles.

I agree to the hotels, but I think from WEG itself that things are okay. Hotels are just ridiculous, plus it doesn’t help that Keeneland is running along with a UK home game
The question is simply does anyone know if they are charging competitors to watch other events?..or does their athlete status entitle them to special setaside athletes seats etc?

Why does it matter? Most likely the answer is yes, it would be highly unlikely the athletes didn’t have full access.
