Question

The other day I was wondering about somebody I know. So I put in his name in the search functions.
As a result I got a thread. One of the posters in the thread sound like he (she) might be the person I´m looking for…
So now I´m wondering whether the search function gave me the thread because of the registered name of the user??

Should I send the person a mail???

Thank you in advance for any help!!

I apologize, if I offended anyone… I really only wanted to know, whether this thread showed up by chance (I repeated my search several times and I always got this thread) or if it showed up, because one of the posters there is really this person???
Although this doesn´t really make sense, because the person posted in other threads too and those didn´t show up …

If you searched a person’s real life name, the board would not match it up to the person’s username. It does not even ask for that information when you sign up.

That person’s real name that you searched on must appear in that thread somewhere. Consider that if their name is made up of common words you may get a false hit, and if part of their name is less than three letters long, that part is ignored by the search. For example, if you were looking for someone named Ed Robins, your search would ignore ‘Ed’ for being too short and might bring up an unrelated thread where someone mentioned robins, the bird.

Oh Thanks!! I didn´t think about anything like that… I searched for the name, because I know sometimes names are mentioned in threads and so I just took the chance. And I was surprised when this thread showed up…
Thank you again. I kind of figured it was a stupid thought of me…
