Anyone know if yesterdays second half will be online ever? Im not sure I want to watch the one on right now if I can see the other one first.
Will I be lost if I watch todays before the second half of yesterdays?
Also can anyone tell me how the dressage works for eventing?
nbcolympics has yesterday’s dressage to view, along with highlights and the like.
I don’t think you will be lost if you don’t watch yesterdays - you just missed some competitors going, not the plot…
I wouldn’t worry about which one to watch first, they are just a line of competitors, it is not like swimming where you have trials and the finals or anything.
If you go to nbcolympics and got to sports, then select ‘Equestrian’, you can see todays. At the bottom of the video, there is the play by play and the commentary next to it. One of the tabs above commentary is ‘video’. You can find yesterday’s video here - you can probably get to it another way, but not sure where it is.
The only have the morning one on NBC.com, which I have already watched, they dont have the afternoon/evening one. They have 1-25 but cant find the ones after 25.
And I dont know how the dressage worked. If you had round one of say competitors 1-50 and then the top 25 or so came back for a second round.
Yea, that’s what I thought you were thinking. No, dressage just takes so long because there are so many riders and the judges have to score. Take about 5 minutes per ride, give the judges 2 min to score and have the scores tabulated, multiply that by about 70 competitors…takes a while.
Then add in breaks to drag the ring, let the scribes uncramp their hands, everyone eat lunch…
One of the reasons Eventing is one of the toughest sports the Olympics has to put together. It takes so many people, time and room…
Each horse gets just ONE opprotunity to do a dressage test. Then it is on to cross country- again once of reach horse. Then finally show jumping. at a “normal” competition htat is just once too. But with the arcane Olympic prohibition on individual meadals for the team competitions, some horses DO do a second show jumping. The top N (I forget exactly how many) do a sceond show jumping round the next day to determine the individual medals. Really stupid in my mind but that is the way it is.
But dressage is just once per horse.

It was in the broadcast, so I’m sure they’ll get it online.

Did anyone see it broadcasted online yesterday? I think from the olympic site? I could BARELY hear the music of the tests, even when I had my volume ALL the way up! 
There is no music, it’s not a Freestyle. This is the dressage phase of Eventing.
Whatever you heard was just ambient background music on the PA.
Just like they said, top 20 come back after the first round of showjumping. The first round of showjumping will determine the team medals, the 2nd round will determine the individual medals.
The Olympics is the only place where this is done, and the reason is because the IOC has issues with an athlete getting two medals for one performance. It’s less than ideal but it beats the option they used in '96 at Atlanta where there were separate team and individual competitions in Eventing.
All the more reason equestrian events should just pull out of the Olympics and go with a WEG every 2 years.
There is a new video on the NBC site that has Becky Holder’s test, and some of the other evening tests from the first day. It seems like it might of been one that is being shown on television, as it is a highlight of the better rides and includes the commentary from the New York studio. I can’t remember the name exactly, but it is up there with the other videos.
I was wondering about the additional videos, too. I caught the first portion of dressage live, and couldn’t be home for the next segments. Whenever I open the “highlights” videos they show me just ONE test. Guess I’ll just wait for it to get posted.
ETA: Of course now that I posted that, I found it! It’s the “Eventing” video with a thumbnail of a gray horse.

There was music in the background. The commentators discussed it as well. According to them, there is always music in the background, or something to that effect.
It is just there so that there is not complete silence, I think - just to make it more interesting for the spectators or something. In other words, it is there, but has nothing do to do with the tests.
