What is the breeding of the horse you are looking at OP? Have you looked at the linear profiles of the stallion to see what leg conformation (etc) that he produces?
Not really any horse in particular. Just window shopping until I can buy in March. I did notice one warmblood broodmare with fetlocks that sunk overly much while walking and some warmblood youngsters that looked like the sunk quite a bit in t/c, however they both had longer pasturns so perhaps that was why? I have been looking at everything from weanling to 4yo mostly.
I wanted input from you all so I can hopefully avoid buying something that wont hold up. I admit to being more than a bit paranoid about soundness.
I will say I have been watching the auction sites, (no I wonât be buying at auction this time, although I have successfully in the past), and OMG a couple horses that went for 5 figures had dropped pasterns while just standing, but they were hairy and handsome and bombproof. Some of the Fresians too seem to have super soft pasterns that practically hit the ground when they move.
If itâs a WB, you can always contact the registry that has approved or licensed the sire and damâs sire and ask how to obtain their linear profiles⊠it is a great way to see what the stallion is actually producing in offspring versus anecdotal experiences which can sometimes lead you down a rabbit hole.
And FWIW, I pass on any questionable pasterns. Itâs been my personal experience that it is not if itâs an issue with pasterns, but when.
